Wrapping
When a fault occurs on the ring, wrapping is automatically performed on the node near the failure point. That is, Ring 0 and Ring 1 are connected. Wrapping has a short response time, which lessens frame loss when a fault occurs, but occupies more bandwidth. Figure 16-1 and Figure 16-2 illustrate the situations before a fiber cut and after wrapping is performed. The thick line indicates the normal route, and the thin line indicates the protection route. Figure 16-1 Traffic flow before a fibre cut
Steering
When a fault occurs somewhere on the ring, the protection information including the failure point and fault type is sent to each node, and the topology also changes correspondingly. The
16-2 Huawei Technologies Proprietary Issue 01 (2007-09-15)
source node only needs to send data to the destination node according to the new topology. The small part of data that has been sent is discarded at the failure point. Steering effectively improves utilization of ring bandwidth and allows signals to be transmitted on the best route. However, it takes a longer time to trigger the switching process, and a new route needs to be decided according to the new topology after the topology becomes stable. Figure 16-3 and Figure 16-4 illustrate the situations before a fiber cut and after steering is performed. The thick line indicates the normal route, and the thin line indicates the protection route. Context
CAUTION
If you change the RPR node ID, the RPR protocol is restarted and the RPR services are interrupted.
Procedure
Step 1 In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose Configuration > RPR Management > Topology Management from the Function Tree. Click the Local Node Information tab. Step 2 Complete the information of the local node, such as Node ID and Node Name. Step 3 To enable the RPR protocol, set RPR Protocol to Enabled. Step 4 Set protection parameters, such as Protection Slow Timer Value (ms), ATD Timer Value (s), Protection Mode, Hold-off Time (ms), Protection Restoration Mode and Protection Wait-To-Retore (s).

You must be an NM user with "NE and network operator" authority or higher. For release 4.0 NEs, including the OptiX 155/622H (Metro 1000), the OptiX 155/622 (Metro 2050), the OptiX 2500+ (Metro 3000), the OptiX Metro 3100 and so on, the protection subnet must be created. The Ethernet processing board and the Ethernet interface board must be installed.
Procedure
Step 1 In the NE Explorer, select an NE and choose Configuration > SDH Service Configuration from the Function Tree. Step 2 Click Create and the Create SDH Service dialog box is displayed. Step 3 Create the cross-connection between the Ethernet and the line boards.

You must be an NM user with "NE and network operator" authority or higher. The RPR topology information must be configured. The port attributes and bound path must be configured for an Ethernet board. The cross-connections between the Ethernet board and the line board must be created. Applies to the EMR0 and EGR2 Ethernet boards.
Procedure
Step 1 In the NE Explorer, select a board and choose Configuration > Ethernet Service > Ethernet Line Service from the Function Tree. Step 2 Click New and the Create Ethernet Line Service dialog box is displayed. Step 3 Complete the information of the EVPL service such as Service Type, Direction, Source Port and other parameters.

NOTE
l l l l
For the EVPL service that is transmitted on the RPR ring, the source and the sink ports can only be of the PORT or RPR type. The port attributes for the RPR port must be P, and the encapsulation format is MartinioE. For N2 series RPR boards, you can set their encapsulation format to stack VLAN. If the port attributes for the PORT port is P, the encapsulation format can only be MartinioE. For N2 series RPR boards, you can set their encapsulation format to stack VLAN. The Sink Node parameter is specific to RPR rings, which is used to identify the destination node of this EVPL service on the RPR ring.
Step 4 Click OK and click Close in the Operation Result dialog box. ----End
