Mesage from The President

hese are testing and trying times for the church. The world around us seems to be collapsing, morally, economically, environmentally, socially, politically and spiritually. The task before the church has become increasingly strenuous. However, no matter how challenging the circumstance, the church that Christ has bought with His own blood must triumph in tough times and provide hope and comfort by remaining faithful to Christ and the mission. Life has some unpleasant moments for every one of us. However, we must never become bitter when things did not go the way we wanted it to. If we are faithful to God things will become better.

Since the beginning of the twentyfirst century and in particular the last quadrennium that I have served, spiritual leadership from my own personal experience involves overcoming and tackling unforeseen challenges and complexities unseen and unheard of before in the history of the church. However, we must stand for that which is right and clearly yet compassionately communicate our unwillingness to compromise with wrongdoing. The times call for leaders who are willing to stand courageously for righteousness when it crosses swords with political correctness.

God is the only person who can choose the spiritual leader. Installation of the

uring the first half of 2011, the church in East Jamaica Conference met and overcame several challenges while accomplishing great successes in the area of evangelism. The East Jamaica Conference utilized several methods in harnessing souls

for Gods Kingdom, which included: Small Group Evangelism, Local Church Crusades, Regular Bible Study and Devotion, and Witnessing to members of the community. We give God the glory and the praise as we are able to rejoice in reporting that between the months of

January and May this year, the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists welcomed 952 precious souls to the Seventh-day Adventist family, through baptism and saw the formation of 526 small groups. To God be the Glory, Great things He hath done!

The service got underway at approximately 3:30 pm at the Mandeville SDA Church. The East Jamaica Conference was especially proud to witness the installation of three of its very own officers, who now accepted the call to wider service.

President of the East Jamaica Conference, Pastor Adrian Cotterell, did not fail to remind the congregation of the need for personal revival and reformation, a theme which shifted in high gear all across our local fields.

Sister Lorraine Vernal was officially installed as the Womens and Childrens Ministries Director; Pastor Eric Nathan was installed as the Director of Family Ministries, Trust Services and Stewardship, while Elder Bancroft Barwise was installed as the Treasurer of the Union. Countless individuals from all over the island were on hand to witness these and other individuals, as they accepted the call to serve in the capacities which they currently occupy.

n Sunday January 8, 2011, scores of members from various congregations all across the EJC Constituency gathered at the Kencot SDA Church for the annual Convention Service. The Service began in fine style and saw presentations in song by several youth of our church.

As is customary, the members of the constituency watched and eagerly listened in anticipation for the reports of their leaders. To God be the glory, many were not disappointed! Members of the constituency made their voices heard by giving affirmation, making suggestions and simply airing their opinions as to how the Administration could forge an even greater partnership with them.

he St. Thomas leg of the Convention 2011, re-affirmed the continued efforts of the East Jamaica Conference to see more active participation of its leaders in that Zone. The brethren in St. Thomas were pleased to welcome the Administrators, Directors and Members of Staff to its shores on Sunday, January 23, where they spearheaded the second leg of Convention 2011. The service got off to a smooth start and saw the contribution of the Ministerial Secretary and Personal Ministries Director of the Jamaica Union Conference.

istory was created on January 29 when the Education Department spearheaded the largest Education Rally the constituency of East Jamaica Conference has ever seen! This event was held at the Kencot SDA Church, and saw the participation of all six schools in our Conference.

onstant in Prayer - a name, a theme, a lifestyle... adopted by the World Church and passed on to the Fields right here in Jamaica, is another initiative through which we were actively engaged. The East Jamaica Conference accepted the torch from the Ministerial Secretary, JAMU - Pastor Glen Jamaica Union Conference O. Samuels and launched its very first Constant in Prayer programme for the Conference, on Sabbath, February 19, at the North Street SDA Church. President of the East Jamaica Conference, Pastor Adrian Cotterell, reiterated the importance for each individual to experience a personal revival and reformation in his/her life.

This was a proud moment in the lives of Pastor Ainsworth Keith Morris in action our students, as they were able to represent their schools to the best of their abilities. Those who attended were indeed blessed as students presented their messages in song.

The captive audience was glued to the message of one of their own, Pastor Ainsworth Keith Morris - a product of Christian Education.

Leaders and Officers from each zone were on hand to witness the symbolic lighting of the lamps, which represented the acceptance of the Holy Spirit and the task to take the gospel to the far ends of our communities.

he Sabbath School, Personal Ministries and Community Services Department, sphereheaded their Personal Ministries Convention on Sabbath, February 2, 2011 at the Constant Spring SDA Church. The service was attended by local Personal

Ministries Directors and other leaders from the EJC Constituency. They were informed of the growth of small group evangelism, as well as how to get on board if they had not been actively involved in a cell group. They were also made aware of the plans to be spearheaded by the Department.

Charmaine Cotterell Passes

he month of February, though filled with many joyous moments and accomplishments, also had its fair share of disappointments.

The East Jamaica Conference was saddened to announce the passing of one of its faithful and ardent workers. A wife, a mother, a daughter and a friend... Charmaine Cotterell, the wife of our President - Pastor Adrian Cotterell, died on February 10, 2011, leaving sons, Adrian Jnr. and Antwan; Father; Mother; 2 Brothers; Nieces; Nephews; other relatives and friends. Scores

of individuals from all over the island, including civic leaders, as well as leaders from the Division were in attendance, giving their support to the Cotterell and Goldsmith families. The threeand-a-half hour service saw many tributes in song and spoken messages, some of which we will all remember for a lifetime.

he East Jamaica Conference launched its annual Youth Week of Prayer campaign on Sabbath, March 5 and climaxed its celebration on Sabbath, March 12, 2011, under the theme: Under the Theme: I am. Youth all across the borders of the EJC Constituency could be seen actively assuming leadership positions in their local churches, going into their communities to witness to others and demonstrating a spirit of camaraderie, as they worked with the leaders of their churches. Through this initiative, many individuals were drawn closer to Christ and several others decided to walk into the watery grave of baptism.

he Communication Department spearheaded its very first workshop since the start of the quadrennium on Sunday, March 13 and Sunday March 20, in St. Thomas and Kingston respectively. Under the leadership of Elder Phillip Castell and Sister Adiese Jonas, the department presented a power-packed practical programme, which enjoyed the attendance of over 70 Communication Directors and Technicians from the local churches. Currently the EJC produces a radio programme, Healthy and Happy with presenter Pastor Jovan Whyte - which airs on Saturday evenings on NCU Radio at 6:30 pm. Healthy and Happy also airs on TBC Radio on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm. The Communication Department also supplies weekly sermons to NCU Radio which airs during the Divine Service Hour Time. The Department also produces Word from Heaven with Pastor Enroy Ferguson, which airs on Tuesdays at 4:45 am. The Department will continue to strive for an even greater partnership with NCU Media Group.

he Youth Department and Children's Ministries Department of East Jamaica Conference, under the leadership of the dynamic duo, Pastor Hanson Drysdale and Sister Claudette Genas, launched their Constant in Prayer initiative on Sabbath March 12, 2011 at the Constant Spring SDA Church. Children were taught the importance of prayer and were pleased to see two of their very own presenting the word of God in fine style! Young Malik Thompson and Dionne Henry were not daunted by the awesome responsibility placed in their court.

The workshop consisted of presentations from four categories, namely: Voice and Speech and Report Writing with Sister Adiese Jonas, Sound Engineering with Elder Errol Vaz, Graphic Designing with Brother David Martin and The art of Photography, with Elder Phillip Castell. Since the start of this year the Communication Department began its partnership with NCU Media Group.

Then came our Pentecost and more celebration! Our Conference was privileged to join our brothers and sisters in the Jamaica Union Conference via our downlink site at the Andrews Memorial SDA Church. We were also tuned in to highlights from Venezuela as hundreds gave their lives to the Lord. We too rejoiced at the Andrews Memorial Church as we got reports that 139 persons gave their hearts to the Lord in one day! To God be the glory, great things He hath done!

Family Conservation Convention

he Family Ministries Department of East Jamaica Conference treated the members of the constituency to a weekend that they will not soon forget. Under the directorship of the ever enthusiastic Pastor Glenville Cornelius Carr, the Family Ministries Department spearheaded its first ever Family Conservation Convention from April 1 to 3, held at the Hagley Park Seventh-day Adventist Church. The dynamic speaker for the convention was none other than Pastor Shian O'Conner - Family Ministries Director and Family Counsellor of the Cayman Islands Conference. Pastor O'Conner addressed several issues affecting families, and caused countless individuals to examine themselves, to see how they can improve their own family life.

Education Sports Day M

aintaining a Healthy lifestyle is of utmost importance! Recognizing this, the Education Department was pleased to once again spearhead its annual Sports Day on Tuesday April 19, 2011 at the Mona Bowl, on the grounds of the U.W.I. Mona Campus. All six schools were overwhelmingly represented and the EJC was pleased to welcome several schools outside of the constituency to participate in the days activities. The visiting schools included: Sav-la-mar High and Prep, Port Maria and Willodene High Schools. The students were not only in high spirits, but exhibited a spirit of camaraderie that was second to none! At the end of the day, Hagley Park Prep School and Savannah-la-mar High School were crowned the 2011 Champions.

On April 30, a special meeting of the Elders and Pastors was convened by President of East Jamaica Conference, Pastor Adrian Cotterell. This meeting was called to reinforce the importance of the Revival and Reformation initiative which was launched on February 19 at the North Street SDA Church.

President Cotterell was delighted to see the tremendous turnout of the elders. Speaking to a jammed-packed capacity crowd of Elders in the EJC Board Room, the president wasted no time in conveying that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is in safe hands, and that with Christ as our leader, our ship can never sink.

he Sabbath School, Personal Ministries and Community Services Department, in conjunction with the Ministerial Department, launched the School of Evangelism at the East Jamaica Conference's Boardroom. The School saw the attendance of several youth, eagerly awaiting their

turn to be Pastor Glenville Carr - Ministerial taught the Secretary and Director of Family basics in Ministries- EJC Evangelism, so as to assist in winning souls for God's Kingdom. Under the leadership of Pastors Carl Cunningham and Glenville Carr, the school continues to grow.

To date there are 150 students registered and actively attending classes at the Conference.

This concert saw the participation of several youth all across the EJC, as they joined forces in saluting mothers all across the island. Also in attendance were members of the Administration, Directors, Members of Staff and of course... several mothers and their children. This concert was conducted to assist in raising funds to purchase items to revive the much needed Drum Corps.

The Annual Lifestyle Evangelism retreat was spearheaded by the Health Ministries and Publishing Ministries Departments of the Jamaica Union Conference, in partnership with a team of professionals from Wildwood LIGHT. The retreat was held at the Golden Acres Resort, Golden Spring, during the period May 4 - 10, 2011. This retreat saw the active involvement of over 70 Adventist Health Volunteers, Literature Evangelists and Health Professionals at Golden Acres, Golden Spring. Publishing Director of the Jamaica Union Conference, Pastor Dudley Hosin, who coordinated the programmes throughout the Union, noted that the main objective of the programme was to find a way to participate in hastening the second coming of Christ and to share with others the Gospel by using Health as an interim wedge to reach individuals. Wildwood LIGHT has been partnering with the Jamaica Union Conference for the second consecutive year. Their aim is to use nature as a source of Health and Healing.

he Childrens Ministries, Sabbath School, Personal Ministries and Community Services Department under the leadership of Sister Claudette Genas and Pastor Carl Cunningham respectively, hosted their very first Convention for 2011, on Sunday May 29.

Indeed, it proved a blessing to all who attended. The Convention saw several musical items from various churches as well as a presentation from our specially invited Guest Speaker, Michael Anthony Lawrence, from the Meadowvale Church.

The Convention also saw a visit from the Children's Ministries Director of the Jamaica Union Conference, Sister Lorraine Vernal, who commended the work being done in the East Jamaica Conference.

Clubs on the streets in the Kings Chapel Community. The enthusiastic children engaged the residents in accepting 560 Priority Magazines as they witnessed as Champions for Jesus. The Bible-spell-a-thon, initiated to strengthen, heighten and encourage children to increase their love for the best Book, the BIBLE, achieved its desired objective. Adults and the children alike were enthused with this new Bible Spell-a-thon initiative. The children, ages 3-12 were given a set of words and were asked to prepare themselves with unseen words. The most outstanding competitors were: Cradle Roll: Nyaija Brown, Bennett and Xaaria-Paige Linton Kindergarten: Ajani McFarlane, Bull Bay, Shantae Porter, Woodford and Larissa Rowe, Sandy Park. Primary: Ramonia Mitchell, Morant Bay, Garcia Gordon, Woodford, and Ruth-Ann Pearson, New Haven. (See pictures of President giving tokens to children). Junior Division: names and churches CONSTANT IN PRAYER On Sabbath, March 12, 2011, the Youth and Childrens Ministries Directors, under the leadership of Pastor Hanson Drysdale and Sister Claudette Genas, respectively coordinated the inaugural Constant in Prayer service. This was held at the Constant Spring SDA church. Pastor Linton Williams and his team provided the platform for a hospitable stay. The children indulged their appetites with the sumptuous fruit breakfast that was provided for them before the beginning of the prayer service. It was heartening to see our children and youth communing with God about their need to be closer to Him. Our 6 year old child speaker, Malik Thompson, from Andrews Church and Dionne Henry, from New Haven Church brought heavens message closer to our hearts. The Oakglades, Whitehall, Stadium Community, Constant Spring and August Town Childrens choirs filled the temple with heavenly awe as they sang. (see picture) In the afternoon session Pastor Glen Samuels gripped the attention of all as he spoke to the benefits of being in constant prayer with God. WOMENS MINISTRIES The Womens Ministries Directors engaged their churches in various activities for the first half of the year. These included seminars, retreats, group and prayer sessions, sermon presentations and home work classes. Twenty- five goodies baskets were packaged at our two quarterly meetings and distributed in the constituency. SHEPHERDESS INVOLVEMENT Our Shepherdesses Leader, Sis. Winsome Phillips and her group members have been actively involved in their pastoral districts. They have been working assiduously with the Women and Childrens Ministries Directors in many activities including character building sessions, mentoring program, motivational sessions, counselling and pulpit presentations. Hats off to the memory of Sister Charmaine Cotterell who led the group of shepherdesses who are engaged in the mentorship and motivational sessions at the Kingsway Group of Schools. SOFT SKILLS TRAINING This program has been initiated to train and certify women at all levels in skills such as effective house -keeping and hosting, self esteem, customer service, winning ways to apply for and keep a job as well as to increase the spirituality of our women. Seventy women met on Sunday July 2011 for the first orientation session. Elder Joan Clarke, our Womens Ministry Resource Team Leader will provide supervision for this activity which will be done jointly with HEART Trust NTA.

Childrens Convention 2011 On Sunday May 29, 2011 a bevy of children congregated at the Kings SDA Chapel. They arrived in buses, cars and on foot from St. Andrew, Kingston and St. Thomas, along with their directors. The host, Pastor Meric Walker, and his team of officers were kept busy providing seats for the over flowing capacity. The day was packed with activities including Bible Spell-a-thon competitions, musical presentations, launch of prayer and Bible Clubs, recital of first quarters memory verses and presentations from each zone on the convention theme- Champions for JesusStewards of Time, Talent and Possession. Our child speaker, Michael-Anthony Lawrence, from Meadowvale Church, delivered his message with confidence as he spoke to the hearts of the children on the reason all should strive to be Champions for Jesus. The children used the opportunity to display their spiritual gifts and talents, fellowshipped and ministered to others. Among the special guests were our male and female children delegates from the churches. They were charged with the responsibility of making the Prayer and Bible Clubs active in their churches. Education Department Hosts Spelling Bee 2011

tudentsfrom several Prep Schools in the EJC Constituency gathered inside the East Jamaica Conference's Boardroom on Thursday June 9, 2011, to witness the long anticipated Spelling Bee competition hosted by the Education Department. Students from Kingsway, Hagley Park, New Hope and Woodford Prep Schools exhibited their competency, as they manoeuvred through several words which they proved were 'easy.'

ommunicators from all across the world gathered at the Holiday Inn in Montego Bay, Jamaica, June 1 - 5, for the Global Internet Evangelism Network, spearheaded by the Communication Department of the General Conference. The East Jamaica Conference was privileged to have its two Communication Directors, Elder Phillip Castell and Sister Adiese Jonas, represented at the forum. For four days, Communication Directors were trained on how to utilize the Social Networking for the purpose of evangelism. The forum saw presentations from several speakers which included the Vice President and Communication Director for the Inter American Division, Pastor Leon Wellington, who was quick to embrace the use of the Internet as a tool for effective evangelism. "In social networking today we need to do what Jesus did to attract people around the theme of preparing for the Kingdom of God," said Pastor Wellington. "We are called to be kingdom builders, to be His witnesses," said Pastor Wellington, as he addressed more than 100 persons during the worship service on Sabbath, June 4, 2011.

After an hour and a half, the competition grew stiff and came down to a nail biting finish. It was with the last three contestants remaining, that it was evident that the Kingsway Prep School had silently struck a clean sweep of the competition. Stephen King, a grade six student was crowned the 2011 Champion Bee, followed by Abigail Roberts- 1st runner up and Layla Givans-2nd runner up. Parents and teachers were on hand to witness this proud moment in the lives of their students. Education Director- Dr. Donna Brown encouraged the participants

At the end of the competition the students beamed as they received their certificates of participation and have indicated their willingness to be a part of next year's event. Coach of the Champion School Avril Spence was enthusiastic as she congratulated the members of her squad for a wonderful performance, while Principal and Vice Principal of the Kingsway School- Claudette Genas and Kaydene Bernard, respectively, were also on hand to lend their support to the team.

NSU Medical Missionary Team Delivers

amily Physician and Coordinator of the Nova South Eastern University (NSU) Medical Missionary Mission trip to Jamaica, Dr. Paula Anderson- Worts, expressed appreciation at the warm reception her team of medical missionaries received when they arrived at the Good Samaritan Inn in Kingston. The twenty three doctors and medical student volunteers from (NSU) arrived at the Seventh Day Adventist run Good Samaritan Inn at approximately 9:40 am on Thursday June 9, 2011. "The idea for mission trips to the Caribbean started more than twelve years ago when the students I supervised at NSU made the suggestion to come to the Caribbean to provide medical care to those in need," said Dr. Anderson-Worts as she explained how the mission trips to Jamaica started . " Because I am a Jamaican", she continued, " it didn't take much to convince me to come to my island with a mission trip." That idea became a reality shortly

blood pressure checks, body mass index (BMI) checks, temperature checks, oral examinations and teeth cleaning, tooth extractions, general medical check up and dispensation of pharmaceutical drugs. Rohan Beckford of a Fletchers Land address received dental care at the Inn today. He echoed the sentiments of many of the grateful recipients of health care when he said, " Knowing how medical care expensive in a Jamaica, this is a good ting dem a do fe we when dem carry de doctor dem to us". He was commenting on the role the Adventist Church and Adventist Laymen, Services and Industries (ASI) played in bringing the NSU Medical Missionaries to the Inn. Rohan earlier received an oral examination and had his teeth cleaned by the medical team. The Good Samaritan Inn is a community outreach centre which caters to the needy, hungry and homeless people of Kingston and St. Andrew. Conceptualized and owned by the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, this facility is operated in conjunction with the Adventist-Laypersons Services and Industries (ASI) East Jamaica. It commenced operations on the grounds of National Heroes Circle SDA Church on December 23, 2007.

Dentist Professor at the College Dr. Paula Anderson - Worts of Dental Medicine Dr. Jorgelin Rodriquez was part of the medical Family Physician and Coordinator of the mission trip to the Good Samaritan Nova South Eastern University (NSU) Medical Missionary Trip to Jamaica. Inn and he too was happy to provide free medical service to the people of Jamaica. " This is my first medical missionary trip to Jamaica and it is noticeable that the people we have seen so far are very grateful for what we are doing for them," said Professor Rodriguez who originally is from Cuba but now resides in the United States. Professor Rodriquez is the doctor in charge of the dental medical team of the mission trip.

Arriving in the island from the USA late last night with little time to settle in, one contingent of the Nova South Eastern University medical team came to the Good Samaritan Inn with the objective of seeing as many patients as possible during the course of the day. Two other groups were diploid to two different locations in Kingston today. The different teams will continue to provide free medical care in Kingston up to Saturday when they will move to Ocho Rios area to assist other Jamaicans. They will continue to provide free medical care in the island up to June 17, 2011 after which they will return home. Despite the gruelling heat and lack of the usual comfortable furniture found in hospitals and medical facilities, the mission team were organized and professional in their delivery of medical care at the Inn today. With the assistance of the local Adventist Health Volunteer Association (AHVA) group, who were on hand to provide initial screening of the patients before they were directed to the medical missionaries from NSU, 241 persons were registered and over 80 persons seen by the medical team . Treasurer of East Jamaica Conference- Elder Waldon Wright, addressed several topics including: the roles and responsibilities of the Treasurer in the SDA Church, the main source of church funding, the nature and character of the tithe, God's commands and pronouncements, Key Stakeholders, Stakeholders' needs, Risk Management and Insurance. In his presentation, Wright noted the importance of a collaboration between the Stewardship Department and those assigned to work with the Treasury and Auditing of the Church. He did so while placing emphasis on knowing the role each department plays and how they overlap. "We are all a part of the same team, going on the same road and going to the same destination, therefore if we want to go to the same destination, we have to find a way to work together because it is one church," said Wright.

Elder Gavin Lowe from the Constant Spring SDA Church was also on hand to spearhead the discussion which he titled: 'Creating Dynamic Christian Leaders.' Lowe emphasized the importance of adding value to those we serve. "We need to recognize people for their character qualifications. They need to learn how to maximize their efforts; often times we worry about positions and titles. Wherever you work, whichever organization you serve in start adding value to people and begin to gain their respect," said Lowe.

dventiZm is the mode utilized by the Adventist Youth Department of the Kencot SDA Church to celebrate our history and culture as Jamaicans and as Seventh Day Adventists. It was launched for Independence weekend in August 2001 and, except for the year 2007, has been an annual event. The idea for a celebration such as this was the brainchild of then AY leader, Brother Martin Thame. The activities associated with AdventiZm are diverse and engaging. Each year begins with a special Friday night vesper service. Our heritage as Adventists is emphasized and celebrated from Sabbath School to AY and each year ends with a grand Jamaica Nite celebration of our

This activity sees AY families being judged on their presentation of elements of Jamaican and Adventist heritage in the areas of speech/ drama, music and cuisine along with the performance of their Cultural Ambassador. AdventiZm 2011 was celebrated under the theme: Identity, the I in AdventiZm. This tenth year celebration is significant in that it marks the resilience and constancy of the youth of Kencot. It is also a testament to the support of the leaders of the church to the AY. AdventiZm 10 is historic and as we look back, we can only declare that on a scale of one to ten- AdventiZm scores a perfect 10!

he choir of the Kingsway High School in Kingston took time out from their regular academic studies to share the love of Jesus with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force at the Half Way Tree Police Station in Kingston on Monday June 20, 2011. The students conducted devotion and distributed Priorities (an Adventist Christian magazine) to the men and women present. Sergeant Florene Clarke lauded the efforts of the students and urged them to make their visit continuous and consistent. She stated that she was impressed that so many teenagers from the school enjoyed taking part in this kind of a missionary venture. "With juvenile delinquency and other serious teenage problems affecting our society, it's a cause for concern and so when we see students who are focused in this aspect of life, then it tells me that all is not lost and that there's still hope," said Sergeant Clarke. Since 2004 the Kingsway High School and the Half Way Tree Police Station have formed an exceptional working relationship and they continue to support each other in numerous events. Principal of the School Mrs. Claudette Genas speaks highly of the commitment and service that the Half Way Tree Police Station continues to give to the school.

Said Genas, "When we have Sports Day they come along, when we're distributing Priorities and other booklets in the community, they also come along. Also when they had their recent anniversary service, they allow our students to participate in the programme.

The Devotional speaker, 16 year-old Rochelle Thomas, was excited about her participation in the witnessing activity. "I found it a blessing, knowing that we as youth are able to minister to the ones who are charged with the responsibility to protect the citizens of our society and giving them a sense of hope while they risk their lives for us. It helps me to be closer to God, especially the fact that I was the one who spoke; so whatever I said, it had an impact on me. Knowing that I could speak to the police and they heard and learnt from God, and God could use me, also impacted me." In addition to their missionary work at the Half Way Tree Police Station, the Kingsway High School is also engaged in Street Ministry, assisting with the activities at the Good Samaritan Inn and Teens for Christ (an established club of students who do visitations to the homes of the less fortunate).

he finalists of the East Jamaica Conferences Ambassadors competition paid a special courtesy call to the Northern Caribbean University on Monday July 18, 2011, where they basked in the offerings of the institution. The team of vibrant youngsters could be clearly identified as they made their way across the campus, which landed them in a dialogue with Interim President, Dr. Daniel Fider. They clearly articulated their mission and purpose as they introduced themselves to the President and his team while making use of the opportunity to ask their long awaited questions about the renown Northern Caribbean University.

Associate Director with responsibility for this initiative, Sister Kathleen Dunkley, expressed that the Ambassadors programme was conceptualized out of a growing concern she had for the low levels of Sabbath School participation and lesson study among the Youth and Junior students. Since the programme has been introduced Dunkley has expressed how much it has impacted her. Ive always known that our young people are very bright and the more I watch them, I am convinced that they have a future. Im very happy to help in any way to assist in steering them to heaven, said the enthusiastic Dunkley.

President Fider welcomed the Ambassadors and expressed his delight to see their active participation in the growth and mission of the church. He urged them to make Christ the centre of their lives, knowing full well that when this is done, all of their needs will be supplied. During the course of the afternoon, the team received a complete tour of the campus and its facilities which proved to an exciting end to the days activities. What started out as a dream for Sister Kathleen Dunkley over two years ago, has now become a reality thanks to the assistance of the EJC Administrators, several other institutions and organizations. The Ambassadors Programme is notably the only organized youth oriented programme of its kind, which aims to build a high level of spirituality among the youth while teaching them the rich heritage of the Seventhday Adventist Church.

One of the finalists, Krystal Gooden will long remember her journey in this competition. I have enjoyed it so much, its been a wonderful experience, said Gooden. She has been engaged in outreach activities on behalf her school and she continues to invite her friends to church as often as she can. For her, the most memorable experiences in the competition have been the courtesy calls and her most recent visit to the Northern Caribbean University. The group will make further courtesy calls to the University College of the Caribbean, the Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and finally to the Governor Generals residence at Kings House.

Sis. Emily Graham was grateful for the help

On May 23, 2011 the Heritage Pathfinder Club of the Constant Spring SDA Church went to the home of shutin member, Sis. Emily Graham, who lives in the Cassava Piece Community.

This was the project of the club for the recent Labour Day Project. A group of Pathfinders from the club decided to volunteer their time and labour to paint the room of the Sis. Emily Graham who was very appreciative of the gesture.

The Pathfinders also took the time to plant a mini garden for her.

This act of love by the Heritage Pathfinder club was preceded by the group singing a few of her favourite hymns from the Seventh-day Adventist Church Hymnal.

nvestiture Service: The Investiture Service for 2010 trainees was held at the Hagley Park Seventh-day Adventist Church on February 5. The service saw .trainees from Mater Guide, Senior Youth Leadership and Pathfinder Leadership Award programmes being invested. Guest speaker was Pastor Charles Blythe, Youth Director-JAMU. During this period the Youth Director Pastor Hanson Drysdale and several Area Coordinators also Youth Ministries Director responded to calls from numerous churches to conduct Investiture and or Induction services. Youth Ministries Training School 2011 Launch- Sunday March 20, 2011 marked the official start of all the training programmes for the calendared year. Noteworthy was the announcement from the Youth Director that the Advanced Pathfinder Leadership Award programme (currently the highest continuing education programme offered in Youth Ministries) will make its debut in JAMU but more specifically in EJC. The course is designed as a training of the trainers for the other programmes. Master Guide Association. There was a soft re-launch of the Master Guide Association help at Kencot on March 20. Donna Lowe was elected as president of the association. 3rd IAD Pathfinder Camporee- A twenty-three member delegation from EJC (and the largest from JAMU) which included the president, youth director, area coordinators and pathfinders attended the 3rd IAD Pathfinder Camporee which was held in Mexico from April 17-23. The experiences garnered have left a lasting impression on the group, especially the urgent need for the English speaking regions to acquire a second language preferably, Spanish. Labour Day Project-The Youth Ministries Department joined forces with thousands around Jamaica who turned out on National Labour Day to extend an arm of love. The group donated paint and spent the day with several other service clubs repainting the walls and buildings at the Denham Town Golden Age Home. We praise the Lord for allowing us to conclude our Summer Camp which took place from August 8-15, 2011. Many youth were drawn closer to Christ and with our continued efforts will very soon walk into the watery grave of baptism.

On behalf of East Jamaica Conference, a big thank you goes to Mrs. Audrey Sewell, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education; Mrs. Grace McLean, Chief Education Officer, Ministry of Education and Mr. Martin Henry, Elder of the Guava Gap Seventhday Adventist Church. Without Mr. Henrys invaluable advice and skillful negotiation, the task of arriving at a settlement would have been onerous. To those who have contributed through prayers and kind words during the stressful time experienced by the students and their family members, a big thank you! Again, congratulations students/brethren as you continue to stand tall though the heavens fall!

he Health and Youth Ministries Departments joined forces to host a Youth Temperance Seminar at the EJC Office on February 19, 2011. Each local church were asked to send two delegates, each being a representative of both categories. The topics presented included: Obesity and the Youth, Drug Abuse in Youth and Sexual Abuse. Dr. Leonard Steele Approximately eighty Stewardship & Health Director persons attended and were also on hand to hear a representative from the National Council on Drug Abuse give a presentation on the harmful effects of drug abuse. On February 21-25, the East Jamaica Conference conducted its second year of the Seventh-day Adventists School Temperance Week. The theme for the week was, Healthy Youth, Healthy School. Persons trained by the National Council on Drug Abuse were organized by the Health Department and were sent out to all the schools to assist with presentations on Drug prevention. The week was a success as the students were well informed on principles on health and made lifestyle changes. Between May 4 and 10, the Jamaica Union Conference and the East Jamaica Conference Health Department joined with the Wildwood Global Light Lifestyle Centre of America to conduct one week Medical training in the area of Health Evangelism at Golden Acres in Golden Spring. Over eighty participants graduated from the course. The graduates consisted of Health professionals, Literature Evangelists, Non- Adventists and Union Staff. A two day Cooking Class was conducted in the earlier part of the year by folks from the Mandeville Area. The Jamaica Union Health Department and the East Conference organized the classes. Over fifty persons received certificates of completion. Most of the participants were cooks from the SDA schools in East Jamaica Conference.
