ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT 2013

Special Program for the Employment of Students 2013

Allen Linatoc CITY POPULATION MANAGEMENT OFFICE BS Computer Science student SPES Employee 2013

Being a SPES employee and job recipient for the first time is new at all. These are not all about the lack of experience, low starting proficiency, feeling early bird or being newbie in field, since this is not the first time I committed work but a non-computer job, nevertheless, not a problem for a dedicated work-seeker. After being admitted as a SPES employee by your office, I felt full satisfaction and the desire to work whether its a computer job or not. Before anything else, being one of the Filipino youth and citizens of our beloved country, I would like to express my happiness and contentment because knowing the improving SPES program under President Aquinos administration and our honorable City Mayor Joaquin Chipeco Jr. gave me the declining sign of government corruption prevalence. Our economy is developing and rising again through the declining rate of corruption under the good governance thanks God, the Filipino people and leaders are working together to advance toward a developed nation. Going back to narrative track, during the job designation day, my name was called under City Population Management Office. Honestly, that time, I was a little bit disappointed because I was thinking that conducting census in the community is explicitly not related to my computer programming passion, expecting that I was about to use my programming science to add office work efficiencies and computer solutions inside different offices in the City Hall of Calamba, but the given work was not. Being a tough work-seeker, I was still determined to work in there. During our work, Id started unnervingly knowing the fact that I dont have the social convincing power because some of the people were not allowing us to conduct interviews. Sometimes, I also reflected from others lives especially the elders left and abandoned in their houses. We also experienced the most common thing being experienced by most of the students assigned in the census field: getting nearly bitten by residential dogs. There were times that we went to mansions and haciendas, and the people in it as the richer ones always try to be the farther one we kept on calling out on their houses to conduct community survey yet it was like calling the haunted stuff under the sun. We met lot of people from different places: the hospitable ones and not. Some gave me drinks, some let us come to their homes, some were cooperative, while some are negated. As we went further, we were instructed to tally out our data, too. And thats the time I used my programming ability, even in the smallest way of it, to carry out the gathered data easily and flawlessly through the help of a small computer program there I learned that my passion in the field of census could also apply itself.

The last day came, and our work was done earlier. While we had the time, I was invited by a friend of mine, who is also a SPES working in DILG, to repair a computer unit in their Barangay Hall knowing that let me gave the part not to waste my remaining time as SPES so I repaired the computer unit for further useful purposes of the office and there as expected, the computer unit was repaired and now up and running. All in all, let me come to a reflection Never expect for real things, this phrase came from my mentor Prof. Jeffrey Garcia in our school First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities, and Im happy to apply and realize the stuff in my summer job. I was just expecting for a plain and simple working experience and Ive never realized that things could go further and greater. Thanks to the whole IIPESO Office, looking in you let me know how you care to your SPES employee. You never treated us like ordinary workers and cared much for us like your sons and daughters. The way how your office organized us we felt your compassion, considerations and commitment to us. We were very sorry for such times that we were unorganizable. Were really thankful everything. So sad that I wont be continuing this summer experience next year, thus, we have the On-The-Job training in our school. But one thing I assure is, what Ive learned and experienced in this summer job will be used and expanded in all forms of my future careers in different companies that Ill be working with soon and use our IIPESO office leaders as the example of true leaders. More power and God bless everyone. MABUHAY ANG BANSANG PILIPINAS! MABUHAY ANG CALAMBA!
