Australia Awards in the Philippines
Australias international development assistance in the Philippines aims to assist the poor and vulnerable to take advantage of the opportunities that can arise from a more prosperous, stable and resilient Philippines. AusAIDs Australia Awards are aligned with Australias development assistance in the Philippines, targeting human resource gaps in identified priority sectors. They aim to provide awardees with the skills and knowledge to drive change and influence economic and social development. AusAID will assess applicants for their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in the Philippines. AusAID offers awards on the basis of merit, transparency and equal access. We strongly encourage applications from men, people with disability and other marginalised groups. organisational development/human resource management and development trade foreign relations governance pandemics (preparedness and management) mining and mining-related fields.

Level of study
Australia Awards Scholarships (formerly Australian Development Scholarships) These are long-term awards providing citizens of the Philippines with opportunities to obtain tertiary qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions. Approximately 90 per cent of awards are for Masters Degrees and 10 per cent for PhD/Doctoral Degrees. Awards will be offered for commencement in 2014-15 within the following allocations: Targeted approximately 70 per cent of awards are for partner organisations (government/nongovernment/private) with mandates supporting mutual priorities of Australia and the Philippines as reflected in the Development Assistance Strategy. The Facility Board of the Philippines Australia Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF) determines the partner organisations. Open approximately 30 per cent of awards are for individuals in the public and private sector planning to pursue post-graduate studies in the identified priority sectors.

Priority sectors
The priority areas of study for AusAIDs Australia Awards in the Philippines are: basic education social protection/welfare peace and development public financial management disaster risk reduction and management climate change adaptation

Australia Awards Leadership Program (formerly Australian Leadership Awards Scholarships) Up to 200 outstanding Australia Awards Scholarship recipients across the globe will be offered a place in the Leadership for Development Program in addition to their scholarship. There is no separate application process. The Leadership Program will bring awardees together in Australia for leadership training, development discussions and the chance to build valuable networks.

The Philippines Australia Human Resource and Organisational Development Facility (PAHRODF) monitors and evaluates the implementation of REAPs and uses it as one of the metrics in assessing the effectiveness of the scholarship program.

Eligibility criteria
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements detailed in the Scholarships Policy Handbook, available at: http://www.ausaid.gov.au/Publications/Pages/scholarhandbook.aspx To meet the specific requirements for the Philippines applicants must also: have at least two years relevant employment be supported by their employer (government employees only) and have signed a written agreement for continuing employment for at least two years after completion of study not hold another scholarship.

Applications or supporting documents received after this date will not be considered.

Special conditions
Applicants must also meet the following Philippinespecific condition: The Re-Entry Action Plan- successful applicants are required to submit re-entry action plans (REAPS) prior to departure to Australia and implement these in their workplace/sector areas/communities upon return.

Applicants must submit with their application all of the relevant supporting documents listed in the Scholarships Policy Handbook available at: http://www.ausaid.gov.au/Publications/Pages/scholarhandbook.aspx Applicants must also provide the following documents to meet the specific requirements of the Philippines:
Curriculum Vitae/Resume using the HRODF template

a brief description of the proposed research topic or other similar documents required by Australian Universities.

The selection process


The selection process includes an interview and takes into account the applicants academic credentials, professional and volunteer accomplishments, and potential to contribute to development in the Philippines. Applicants are encouraged to provide details on their re-entry plans as part of their application.

degrees certification of the Grade Point Average/General Weighted Average National Bureau of Investigation clearance for International Travel a completed first page of the REAP Form (template can be downloaded from www.australiaawards.ph) o The REAP outlines how the newly acquired knowledge and skills will be used to contribute to development in the Philippines. Certificate of No Scholarship Obligation for applicants from Government of the Philippines agencies: o a letter from the Head of the Agency endorsing the scholarship application o a certificate of no pending case signed by the Human Resource Manager (or applicable officer) o a clearance from the Office of the Ombudsman certifying that the applicant has no pending criminal and/or administrative case. for PhD/Doctoral Degree applicants: o proof of correspondence with the Research Adviser confirming agreement to supervise and availability of University resources for the proposed research

Preparatory training
Awardees are required to participate in the universitys Introductory Academic Program (IAP) and any other required preparatory study on arrival in Australia.
