A high-precision 600 dpi engine is employed. The scan resolution is 600 dpi 600 dpi, at 256 tones per dot. The printer output resolution is also 600 dpi 600 dpi, where 256 tones processing through 2-values-perdot error diffusion is performed. Different modes (text + photograph, text only, photograph only) are available for different original types. With conventional digital plain paper copiers, reproduction of originals that have both text and half-tone images has not been very successful. UTAX has made the high-precision reproduction of such original documents possible. One of the improvements that we made is to expand the definition of text plus photographs originals so that most original documents will fall into this category. The text plus photographs is the default mode. This minimizes the necessity for mode changes by users.

Text + photo mode

This general purpose mode covers more than 90% of types of originals. Originals having both text and photographs can be reproduced clearly in this mode.

Text mode

Photo mode

For even softer images than the text and photograph mode. Ideal for emphasizing the 3D effect of photographs. Density reproducibility of low-density portions improves.

Text mode reproduces the text portion of the document more clearly than the text plus photograph mode when it is required that faint or thin lines should be clearer. Produces sharp images by emphasizing tone changes and edge reproduction.

General features
<Auto exposure (AE)> The default exposure setting for the CD 1020 is the center value of the manual exposure range (3 of 5 levels). With the AE, a background removal is performed, where colored paper such as a newspapers background color is ignored for clearer text reproduction. The AE value, however, cannot be determined when the sheet-through type DF, a standard feature on most recent digital models, is used. With the sheet-through DF, placing the original on the original table for pre-scan to determine the exposure value is impossible, because of the rough scan. Therefore, the first several mm of the original leading edge is usually used to determine the background density during a rough scan. The drawback to this method is that inappropriate data may be obtained to determine the background density if the original has photographs or shadows near the leading edge. Although many models are designed to ignore any too dark data to avoid this problem, the accuracy of background density determination may still be lower than conventional machines. On our machines, however, AE is set to off by default. Our default exposure is the center value of the manual exposure range, which produces an output that is most faithful to the original document. Ordinary original documents can be handled easily with that exposure level. However, if you need to make a copy of a newspaper page and you want a background which is lighter than the original, you may need to activate the automatic exposure.

High-precision printer with 1.200 dpi

Printer output is as fast as copier output, providing 600 dpi basic resolution. With the smoothing feature, 2,400 dpi 600 dpi can be achieved. The printer driver allows adjustment of printing density and contrast, making the printing function versatile to meet your needs.

Common functions and specifications Fail-safe mechanism

The fail-safe feature prevents local problems from affecting the entire machine operation. Problems occurring in the ADF, RADF, individual cassette or duplex unit, for example, are contained within that unit by isolating that unit from other parts of the machine, preventing overall system downtime. This feature minimizes the potential for delays in work due to the sudden halting of the entire machine operation.

Non-stop paper replenishment

(The auto cassette change on the user default setting must be activated)

This feature allows users to replenish paper in another cassette of the same-size paper while the machine is in operation. High-volume copying can now be done without any interruption.

Automatic paper selection / automatic magnification ratio selection

The original detection sensor enables selection of an appropriate paper size for the original, or adjustment of the magnification ratio to suit the paper size selected. This is a useful feature when paper of various sizes is placed in optional paper feed units.

Basic copying features

First copy speed
Making a single copy takes no more than 5.5 seconds (this is when A4 landscape original is placed on the original table. It is 8.5 seconds or less when the DF is used). During the memory copy of high-volume originals using the DF, scanning and output are performed at the same time for the first page. From the second page, data stored in the memory is used for the output.

Enlargement and reduction / zoom

The enlargement/reduction feature has three modes: Fixed magnification, where a predetermined magnification ratio is to be selected; Zoom, where you can select a desired magnification in 1% increments from 50 to 200%; Auto magnification, where a magnification ratio is determined by the system when you select the original size and paper size.

Interrupt copy
Interrupt copying during bitmap memory copying and sort-copying is available. 1) Interrupt copying is not possible when: - Display other than the basic (e.g. printer function display, default setting display) is shown 2) When using the following functions, the interrupt copying is available only during printing (Not during scanning the originals.) - N-up copying 3) Interrupt copy is not possible when; - While the finisher is used, the copy with finishing function can not be used. For example: Interrupt copy with sort staple, while printing with stapled. Interrupt copy of duplex printing, while printing with stapled.

Eco mode
The CD 1020 employs an economy mode where toner consumption can be minimized. This mode is known as Toner Saving mode or Draft mode for conventional printers. In this mode, the image becomes slightly lighter. It is a useful mode when you want to print documents as a draft. The Economy mode can be selected by holding the image quality mode selection key for 5 seconds. The density reference level (center value) for each mode, which can be set in the user settings, will be lower than the set value. Toner consumption is reduced by approximately 30%. How much to reduce the toner consumption can be changed by using the service simulation.

Output mode (sort / non-sort switching )

The CD 1020 takes full advantage of digital functionality by allowing users to select a default output mode without changing the processing speed. If sort is set to default, you do not need to press the sort key to initiate sorting.

Management code
The CD 1020 provides a tool that users can use to control the copy or print volume by department. When this feature is activated, copies can be made only when registered department control code is entered. Up to 100 departments can be registered.

Functions
Rotation copy
Normally paper with the same size and orientation as the original is automatically selected. Rotation copy is useful if there is no such paper installed; it then selects the paper of the same size but different orientation. The image will be rotated by 90 degrees. Rotation copy is compatible with the enlarge/reduction mode. However, in the case of enlargement, the maximum image length you can obtain is 297mm (A4 length) in the direction of machine depth (main scanning direction). For example, an A4 landscape original cannot be copied onto A3 or B4 paper in this mode.

A
Rotation sort

The rotation sort feature stacks ejected paper vertically and horizontally on the same tray. This is referred to as simple sorting. Rotation sort requires two cassettes loaded with paper of the same size (A4 or B5) but different orientation.

N-up copying
The N-up copying feature allows two or four originals to be copied onto a single page (2 in 1, 4 in 1 ). The boundary of each original page can be indicated in dotted or solid lines. Using the duplex copy feature, users can create pages having 4 or 2 originals copied on one side and 4 or 2 originals copied on the other. Paper sizes that can be used for N-up are: A3, B4, A4 (portrait and landscape) and B5 (portrait and landscape) .

Functions
Split page copying

( The SRDF-1 , an automatic reverse document feeder, is required. )

The split page copying feature allows copying a double-sided original onto two sheets of paper. The enlargement/reduction features can be used together with the separation feature.
1
2

Border erasing
The border erasing feature erases the fringe of original documents. Dark shadows along the original edges can be eliminated in this way. The border widths are 6, 12 and 18 mm (1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 inches). This feature also erases shadows that appear on the copy of book originals. Shadows appear along the edges of the page and near the binding area. This is a useful feature when making copies from thick books. The same frame widths apply for book originals.

Margin
The margin feature creates extra margins on the copy for binding. Left margin shifts the original image to right, leaving a wider margin on the left. The margin values are as follows: 6 18 mm (1 mm increment)

Auto start
Users can leave the original on the machine, make necessary mode selections and press the enter key while the machine is still warming up. Copying starts automatically once the machine is stabilized. Data cannot be scanned and stored at this time.

Auto paper selection

( Automatic document feeder STDF-3 or automatic reverse original feeder SRDF-1 is required.)

Auto duplex
Together with the optional duplex unit , the CD 1020 can make duplex copies out of single-sided originals, double-sided copies from double-sided originals ( SRDF-1 is required ), and duplex copies out of book originals. Even in duplex copy mode, copies can be made while the originals are being scanned.

-8-

CD 1020e/ PM / 24.01.01

Specification are subject to change without notice.

The auto paper selection feature detects the size of the original page by page and selects the same size paper for copying. Originals that can be used with the auto paper selection feature are those having the same width as A3 and A4, B4 and B5 or 8.5 11 and 11 17 paper.

optional Functions
Printing System (K)
The CD 1015 printer controller Printing System (K) integrates Prescribe IIe, the same controller language Kyocera printers use. The optional Printing System (K) turns the CD 1015 into a fully-fledge (network) laser printer. The print resolution of 600 x 600 dpi can be further increased to 2400 dpi x 600 with KIR2 (Kyocera Image Refinement smoothing technology), and have an output speed of 15 ppm (with MB-5A installed, CD 1015 speed is increased to 18 ppm). Printing System (K), when installed, is compatible with PCL 5e, PCL 6, PostScript II (KPDL2), IBM ProPrinter X24E, Epson LQ-850, Diablo 630 and Lineprinter. The printer driver software allows users to select the desired resolution, including Eco-Print with 2 or 4 images on one page, print management and internal collation. Printing System (K) supports Windows, Macintosh and Netware environments. TCP/IP, EtherTalk & IPX/SPX protocols are also supported. The CompactFlash* card offers abundant storage spaces for typefaces, logos, standard forms and signatures as well as individual API or PRESCRIBE macros.

Printer features
High-quality printing The CD 1015 s resolution of 600 x 600 dpi is boosted to a high-quality resolution of 2400 dpi x 600 dpi with smoothing technology. This high-quality printout does not alter the machines output speed that is maintained at 15 ppm (18 with optional MB-5A). Standard emulations supported by the CD 1015 are PCL 5e, PCL 6, PostScript II (KPDL), IBM ProPrinter X24E, Epson LQ-850, Diablo 630 and Lineprinter. With the Kyocera Mita page design and control language PRESCRIBE IIe even complex graphics, logos and standard forms can be created independently of the system and saved in the printer. Consequently, integration into print files no longer applies. They are only fetched as required and therefore relieve the load on the network.

N-up printing
The printer driver for the CD 1015 supports N-up printing. This means that up to 25 pages can be printed on one side of a sheet of paper (reduction will be done automatically). PCL6: 25-up (Win95/95/2000), PCL 5e for Windows 2000: 25 and PostScript (KPDL2): 4.

Network printing (optional) The CD 1015 with Printing System (K) and the optional NC-110 can be connected to various types of network environments: Windows, Macintosh & Netware environments. TCP/IP, EtherTalk & IPX/SPX protocols are all supported. The copier can also be used as a multi-protocol printer by different computers on the network since 10/100BaseTX networks are supported. This feature will give you desktop access to all the image, document handling and finishing functions. A3 printing
The CD 1015 support printing on A3-size paper. This feature combines well with Booklet printing and N-up printing.

optional Functions
Compact Flash card and its enhancements
Similar to the Kyocera printer board, the Printing System (K) is configured with a compact flash interface. By installing the optional compact flash card the following features are supported: 1) Storage of external fonts (local fonts) You can store fonts that do not come standard in the printer so that they can be used just like printer fonts. Although Windows already allows fonts not stored in the printer to be output, if local fonts are stored in the compact flash card, the performance is dramatically increased. 2) Rewriting of the firmware Updating of the firmware is greatly simplified by using a compact flash card with the updating program stored within. Besides using a compact flash card, the firmware can also be rewritten using the following two procedures: Rewriting from a PC connected using the parallel interface. Other than installing a coded DIMM, rewrite using a memory card containing the upgraded program. 3) Expand functionality by using API: The Application Program Interface (API) filter function uses a program on the Compact Flash card to process the data sent to the printer from a client. This can be used for adding control commands, deleting unnecessary codes, and other convenient function.

optional Functions
Fax System (B)*
With the addition of the optional Fax System (B), the functionality of the CD 1020 is extended to a real multi-functional device. Fax System (B) is a Super G3 fax, with a 33.6 Kpbs modem speed. Fax System (B) offers a transmission time of less than 3 seconds and a scanning time of less than 2 seconds. Functions such as Rotate transmission and reception, Duplex transmission and reception as well as Sub-address faxing are possible with our FaxSystem (B).
* Needs SRDF-1 or STDF-3 SRDF-1is required Duplex unit is required

Super G3-compatibility A Super Group 3-compatible fax, the CD 1020 is equipped with a high-speed 33.6-kbps modem. This Super G3 facsimile systems enables high-speed transmission at 3-second range. Compared to older Group 3 faxes, with a modem speed of 14.4 kbps, this reduces considerably the transmission times by 50%. The speed of communication with a Super G3 fax is more than twice as fast as a G3 facsimile. Sub-address faxing Sub-address faxing is a special kind of confidential faxing. It uses an additional sub-address code, which is added to the fax number. Unlike ordinary confidential fax devices, this function is not limited to samebrand faxing (i.e., only available between Kyocera Mita faxes), but can be used regardless of the type of fax on the receivers side, as long as it complies with the standards pertinent to sub-address faxing (ITU). Duplex TX & RX* On the CD 1020 users can both scan and print 2-sided fax messages.
* For scanning duplex fax messages the optional document feeder SRDF-1 is required; for printing duplex fax messages the optional duplex unit AD-61/AD-62 is required.

One-touch keys and abbreviated dial The CD 1020 has 32 one-touch keys for quick and easy dialling of fax numbers. The name of the addressee can be recorded in up to 20 characters. In addition, the modem speed and sub-address can be registered for each one-touch key. Next to the one-touch keys, up to 132 abbreviated dial numbers can be registered. Electronic telephone directory All registered one-touch and abbreviated dial numbers are stored in the electronic telephone directory. Instead of remembering the abbreviated dial codes for all recipients, users can simply enter the first letter of the recipients name and scroll through the list of registered recipients to select the correct one. Rotate receiving and sending Unlike most faxes, the CD 1020 Fax System (B) allows, after scanning portrait direction (Long edge feeding), the image to be rotated 90 degrees, and sent as any other fax would send it. Similarly, received fax messages are rotated 90 degrees before being printed, so that they can be printed widthwise: on A4 instead of A4R paper.

optional Functions
Memory back-up The CD 1020 is equipped with a back-up battery, which protects all data related to documents in memory when a power failure occurs. This automatic back-up system applies to documents received into memory but not yet printed out as well as to documents awaiting transmission. The back-up time is at least 1hour. Chain dialing In Chain dialing a one-touch dial number is combined with another number (one-touch, abbreviated dial, or manual) and used as a single fax number. This is especially useful for prefixing special codes to telephone numbers, such as the extra code needed to make use of the services of a private telephone company. Relay broadcast Relay broadcast allows users to send their fax message to a relay broadcast hub, from which it is then sent to up to 100 different destinations. For example, if a user wants to send a large number of faxes from Europe to different destinations in America, it would be less costly to have a relay hub in America, and to automatically forward the faxes from there.
