Global Warming can be attributed to many factors in an industrialized civilization. Scientists say some causes of global warming are green house, aerosol based emissions, the carbon cycle, the biosphere, oceans, and even clouds. To fully understand the surrounding factors involving global warming you must analyze them individually. Climate changes occur when the distribution of energy is change within the global climate system. The consideration of time scales must me be made when determining climate change. Climate changes are always effected by time scales because internal factors alter climate over a period of time Greenhouse gases are blending into the atmosphere at such epic proportions that although certain areas reduce emissions it is hardly noticeable. Some scientists argued that energy consumption, and population growth were causes of global warming these theories were disproved based upon the fact they could not explain the temperature rises in artic regions. The common understanding of how our use of energy affects the environment has in the last few decades undergone major changes. The formation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the presidency of Richard M. Nixon made great leaps, and bounds in identifying factors effecting the environment negatively. The smell along with visible particles floating within the air in major metropolitan cities in the United States were recognized to have detrimental effects on the health of the general public.

The general consensus was that smog caused by the polluting of clean air from the burning of gasoline that contained tetraethyl had to be combated in order to ensure the public would have clean breathable air. Air pollution was becoming a huge issue facing the country, along with another increasing problem Global Warming. Global warming unlike air pollution had the potential to effect the entire plant. The effects also virtually irreversible over the span of human beings life. Scientists also noted that emissions that cause global warming blend seemingly into the upper atmosphere. This means that areas where emissions are not high will still be affected regardless of location. The most difficult thing about this issue is diagnosing the problem because damage caused by emissions want show for quite some time. The EPA established guidelines in 2009 to limit the amount of emission from power plant facilities, oil refineries, and other large facilities in order to decrease their level of contribution to global warming. Greenhouse gases help to substain life on the planet by keeping the atmosphere warm enough to prevent an ice age but, a large concentration in one particular area can be detrimental to all life. The ozone layer is the protective layer that keeps sun rays at an acceptable level to maintain human life. Greenhouse gases are responsible for the deterioration of this protective layer. The ozone layer was ultimately being damaged by a chemical reaction with
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) released by several human interventions. A substitute was made to cut down on the amount of CFCs. These new compounds are classified as HCFCs (hydro-

chlorofluorocarbons) to indicate that hydrogen atoms have been put in the place of some of the halogen atoms in the CFCs. The ozone is negatively affected by chemical reactions between nitric oxide, and hydrocarbons at low altitudes where we live called the troposphere. High traffic areas in large metropolitan areas produce large amounts of hydrocarbons a major problem for the EPA. Although ozone is a potent GHG, it is chemically reactive and is relatively short lived in the troposphere. The only concrete solutions for global warming seem to be reducing carbon emissions, and the global dependency on fossil fuels. The development of alternative fuel sources is one major way this problem is being handled.
