1. I have tried the BOOK SORT problem twice , and the score was 20 marks only . The result is Time limit exceeded. 2. I have tried ENDCORR problem 3 times and the result is Wrong answer 3. I have tried LEAFEAT problem 8 times and the result is Wrong answer Need your support in understanding this problems once again by writing program / coding along with you, and identify where I have made the mistakes. Index of Past problems: Basic 1. The Medu wada MAZE (NOV 2004) 2. The ROLLING BALL ( NOV 2005) Advanced Problems: 1. High speed network (AUG 2005) 2. Number of Tilings (APR 2006) Along with Varun, to understand step by step creating algorithm and writing program for these 4 problems as practice and training. Questions / Other Inputs: 1. For the 2nd level exam hope computers would be provided at PS School 2. For C / C++ whether the compiler devcpp would be installed in the system or not (in PS School system) 3. Will I able to check the program whether it is running smooth or not before I submit the code 4. Generally what is the cut off mark for 2nd level program exam . 5. In which language it is better to write the code , C or C++ 6. Will the questions be more or less similar to the past problem archives 7. Any other site or substance I need to go through for better understanding

Also check up my overall current level of Knowledge in C /C++ by asking some specific questions on commands / coding / loop / array table etc, and guide me in which area I need to more focus and strengthen by concept.

Dear Madam, We are referred by Mr.Sreeram who is working with CTS and who spoke to you yesterday evening regarding my son Jayaganesh for his informatics Olympiad competition. My son name is K.Jayaganesh, studying in class 10 with DAV Public School Velachery. He has appeared for the Zonal informatics Olympiad examination which is the first level examination for Indian computing Olympiad examination. Out of 6000 students ( at all India level), 310 students were qualified for participating in the second level examination. My son is also one amongst them. The first round was mainly based on Logical thinking, analytical ability and algorithm building. The second level exam is programming round . The second level exam is scheduled on 19th January, and the question paper will consist of 2 problems for which the students needs to write program in C , C++ , Pascal language. I have enclosed the last few years sample paper for your reference, and the question paper will be in that model only. The complete details are available in the site IARCS . In the same site there is a link for Online judge where in the students can submit their coding for the sample problems provided there , and the Online judge will give the results for the problem like a) solution accepted (b) Run time error (c) Time exceeded (d) wrong answer etc. The site details and the link is as under. http://www.iarcs.org.in/inoi/programming-contest.php http://opc.iarcs.org.in/ In the iarcs.org.in site under the heading problems there are some 44 sample problems which shall be tried by the students and can submit their codings. My son has coded some 4/5 problems from the list and submit the solutions . For most of the questions the output from the online judge is Time exceeded and Run time error . This means that the logic for the program is right, and however the compilation time is exceeded. We are not able to proceed further and got struck up there. I have also provided the login and password for the site, so that you shall view the coding submitted by my son for the problems , and shall understand where the problem is.
