Victory at Marathon!!
Its a Miracle! The Greek alliance comes out of Marathon with a Davidvs.-Goliath upset! The mighty Greeks waited until most of the Persians got onto their boats and attacked using the double pincer. That means the center of the line engaged in combat. Then they were beat back, but the Persians over committed their line, allowing the Greeks to come around the sides and flank. The slaughter took only three hours and gave time for the Greeks to form a defensive line around Athens. Some soldiers I spoke to after the battle told me that the ghost of Theseus, the old king of Athens who slayed the Minotaur, was fighting beside them. As soon as the Greeks won, they sent their best runner, Pheidippides, back to Athens to spread the news of their great victory. He ran approximately 25 miles to get to his destination and arrived with just enough energy to say, NIKE and drop dead (see page 3). At long last, Darius, king of Persia, has been beaten and the blob has been stopped.
P: They said no because they were in the middle of a religious festival. Stupid Spartans. They say that pan came to help us though, DM: whos pan? P: Pan is the half-man, half-goat god of shepherds. Apparently when he plays his pan flute, it causes panic. DM: Did you fight at marathon? P: Yes, I fought for the Greek army DM: Did you have plans for the rest of your life before you died? P: No, I just wanted to live life to the fullest every day. DM: Thank you for answering these questions! I hope you enjoy your time in the underworld!
