Profile Overview BS-100

z

BS-100 road stabilizer has been proven in the world market since 1986 and is contractor preferred stabilizer product additive, making all the difference between a strong flexible and durable base vs. road that cracks and needs constant maintenance after construction where conventional methods and materials were used. BS-100 works with all soil types in the soil classifications chart, except peat (which is a highly organic living moss). BS-100 full depth reclamation eliminates the need to purchase and haul new expensive base materials, excavating and hauling away of valuable materials already in place. BS-100 is:

Non--Toxic Non--Corrosive Non--Allergenic Non-- Flammable

Benefits

z z

Why use a liquid polymer like BS-100 at all? In addition to cracks, water is a roadway cross-sections worst enemy. The use of BS-100 and/or TS-100 liquid polymer additives adds prevention of shrink cracking and provides desired flexibility and durability to soil layers in the roadway cross-section. When the typically standard soil admixtures are used, the roadway cross-section will always start to shrink crack within one or two months after construction and will then reflect to the surface.

Product Overview TS-100

z

TS-100 is unique in that it contains powerful copolymers, making strong chains of polymer molecules that are cross-linked into grid like patterns with a range up to 1million molecules long, developed to penetrate and blend into soil for a hard, resilient surface by cementing loose material of the road base into a tight cementations bond.
z z z z z

Will harden and remain dust free, flexible and durable Provides a strong barrier against freeze-thaw cycle Moisture resistant Enhances surface friction and anti-skid qualities Increases load bearing strength of ALL types of mineral soils

Benefits
z z z z z

Seals Roads and prevents shrink cracking. Controls Dust and Erosion. Full Depth Base Stabilization of in-situ materials. Increases Load Bearing Strength of all Types of Soils. Penetrates and binds loose aggregate in the treated base to form a solid, water resistant, marble-like finish.

Benefits

Why is sealing the base with TS-100 sealant necessary?

z

Immediately after finish grade and compaction has been completed on a newly reconstructed base course, TS-100 sealer is used as a Non-Toxic fog seal to seal the surface of the roadway. This acts as a vapor seal or moisture barrier and seals the in-place moisture within the new base course during the curing period to prevent shrink cracking that may reflect through to the surface layers in the future.

Benefits

Are Construction Weather Conditions a Problem?

z

Mild inclement weather does not affect the soil stabilization process other than an interruption in work during heavy rain periods. Water does not adversely effect any partially completed roadway when the P.C.T construction method and specifications are utilized.

Benefits

Maintaining Traffic During Construction

z

Vehicles may continue to use the partially completed roadway without undue delay or inconvenience. If any admixtures inadvertently wash into the roadway drainage ditches, no harm is done as all are environmentally safe (non-toxic and noncorrosive). TS-100 dries clear and does not cause any unwanted black marks or black spots on vehicles to be tracked into adjacent driveways, pavements or buildings.

Product use on your road

z

The oldest Base-Seal roads are now 25 years old without base failure. BS-100 and TS-100 can accomplish this at a lower initial cost and lower long term maintenance costs due to the durability and flexibility of the road base.
Walden Road, Beaumont, Texas (10 years after the road was built). Left side of road base was stabilized with BS-100. Right side of road was constructed conventionally using crushed rock as the base course without BS-100

Steps of Engineering Technology

1989 Construction of Sulphur Road, Jefferson County, Texas Sulphur Road connects with Texas State Highway 69, near the City of Beaumont, Texas. The picture at the right shows the road BEFORE the old surface was removed, and the base material stabilized with BASE-SEAL Liquid Soil Stabilizer, and then resurfaced.

Sulphur Road Project

After the old asphalt and chip-seal surface was scarified and blended with 3 inches of new base material, BASE-SEAL Liquid Soil Stabilizer mixed with water was applied by grader blade.

Step 1 Step 2

Sulphur Road Project

After the BASE-SEAL Liquid Soil Stabilizer was applied by water truck and graded to the proper depth, the third and last step is to compact the base material. The Beaumont Crew used a vibratory sheep-foot compactor & pneumatic rubber tire roller (pictured).

FINISHED!

In 2001, Jefferson County Precinct #4, as well as surrounding cities, turned from using oil emulsion primers to using environmental friendly TOP-SHIELD (TS-100) for a cleaner, more effective sealant.

Oil emulsion primer completed on BASE-SEAL Liquid Soil Stabilizer road base, ready for chip-spreader to spread "chipseal" surface.

Project Investment
z

BS-100 and TS-100 are not only provided at a lower initial cost than conventional materials, but require little base course maintenance costs once applied when Pavement Composite Technology (P.C.T) design guidelines are used.
z z z z z z z

Save up to 50% in Construction Time. Save up to 30% of initial construction costs. Higher Quality. Strong and durable. Long life expectancy (up to 20 years). Low life cycle maintenance costs. Impervious to water and damage associated with it.

Project Goals
z

Improve current infrastructure for the purpose of saving money and construction time, but not compromising quality of the end product as compared to conventional design and construction methods. Provide high-quality cost-effective roads while decreasing time required to complete road construction. Roads meet the standards set by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, (AASHTO), of the United States of America

Testimonies

I was amazed to find that Liquid Polymer Sealant TS-100 significantly improved the unconfined compressive strength of the (sandy/silty) SM Material by: 58% in Dry Test Condition 208% Wet Test Condition Engineer Research & Development Center

Roads were under water for up to 10 days in Simonton, Texas, and estimates were that we would have 100% loss of all roads. After the run-off the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were astonished to see very little to no damage to the roads containing Liquid Soil Stabilizer BS-100 The only roads damaged were those not to have used BS-100 Bob Lutts, Commissioner, Precinct 4 Fort Bend County, Texas

Western Road, Galveston County, Texas

The road was built in 1987, a 6 limestone base, stabilized with BS100. Two weeks after the base was cured the above base was under water for 10 days during a hurricane. There was no damage and after it dried out was seal-coated with emulsion and rock. As of this date of November 2007, the same Base remains solid, with only minimal surface maintenance.

The attached photo of Phillip W. Ace Wise, C.E.T. shows him pointing to a Base-Seal stabilized road base in Walton County which has been under water for two weeks after hurricane Georges. The subgrade soil, which was not stabilized with Base-Seal washed out from under that base. During cleanup of the nearby cities and County of Walton, this haul road had tri-axle dump truck running over it 24/7 bringing heavy debris to the land fill and hauling full truck of clay from the pits weighing 70,000 lbs, ten hours a day, 6 days a week during the recover period from the hurricane. FEMA granted Walton County $6 Million based on the quality performance of BASE-SEAL and TOP-SHIELD for construction mitigation.

Impossible to Stabilize Beach Sand? .Not So !..

Nelson Miner, P.E., Retired County Engineer, Walton County, Florida, demonstrates it can be done by using Base-Seal and Top-Shield, 50/50 and 5% of lime kiln dust on Inlet Beach Drive near the Florida coast, which reached unconfined compressive strengths 850 to 1,500 psi.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) approved BASE-SEAL and TOPSHIELD for reconstruction mitigation in that coastal area based on the performance and environmental safety of BASE SEAL and TOPSHIELD. Since 1998, Walton County has built over 250 miles of roads, without base failure, using the Pavement Composite Technology.
