PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Dear Harford Leaguers and Friends, Welcome to the new League year with our newly elected officers and board members. While our activities will slow down a bit for the summer, there are still many things to plan and organize. One of the closing events of the past League year was the League of Women Voters of Maryland Convention, held in Towson this year. You were represented at the convention by Peg Hill, Theresa Freligh and myself. Delegates from local Leagues in Maryland voted to add an additional preliminary state study in the upcoming year. I am hopeful that two or three of you will step up to be part of this new study on coastal and nearshore Maryland. If you are interested in learning more about this project, please call me at 410-272-1815 or email me at: coffee316@comcast.net. We have completed our registration of seniors at local high schools with over 100 students now eligible to cast a ballot in selecting our next local, state and national representatives. Have an enjoyable summer and think League!

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION NAMES PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSION ON ELECTION ADMINISTRATION MEMBERS

05/21/2013 The following is a statement by Elisabeth MacNamara, President, League of Women Voters of the United States: Today, President Obama named members to the Presidential Commission on Election Administration. While we remain disappointed by the Presidents response to improving our elections to date, we hope that todays action means that the commission will be able to get to work on behalf of this nations voters. The League once again calls on the President and this new commission to make some bold changes like those suggested in our four point plan to make elections free, fair and accessible. We would like to see secure online voter registration, permanent and portable statewide voter registration, expanded early voting, and improved polling place management. This is a weak response to a big problem. We need bold action to protect Americans from the risk of disenfranchisement. We hope this commission will set forth a proactive agenda that tackles real problems plaguing our elections.
