STUDY SYNOPSIS

Title of the project A STUDY TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES REGARDING DOCUMENTATION OF PATIENT CARE AMONG STAFF NURSES AT NIMS, HYDERABAD, A.P. Objectives: To assess the knowledge and practices of nurses regarding documentation of patient care. To correlate the knowledge and practice of nurses with regard to documentation of patient care. To find the association between knowledge of nurses with regard to documentation of patient care and selected variables. To find the association between practice of nurses with regard to documentation of patient care and selected demographic variables

Introduction: Traditionally, nurses communicate information about their patients orally. Therefore, modes of written communication in nursing are not given the attention they deserve. This has an unfortunate effect on nursing, with this oral culture obscuring or concealing the work of nurses. Documentation provides a much wider platform for the storage of knowledge because the work of memory and conservation is inherent in the written words. Nursing documentation is a tool that demonstrates what the nurse actually does for the patient. Documentation provides nurses with a much greater repository of knowledge and enables the nurses to consider a far greater number of options when making a decision about the patient care. This is the major reason to conduct my study on knowledge and practices regarding documentation of patient care among staff nurses at NIMS, Hyderabad.

Hypothesis: There will be significant association between the knowledge and practices among staff nurses regarding documentation of patient care and their selected demographic variables. Sample and sampling technique: Non probability sampling convenient sampling technique The study includes the staff nurses who: Were working at NIMS during the time of study. Were willing to participate in the study. Were available at the time of study or data collection. The study does not include the staff nurses who: Were not willing to participate in the study. Were not available at the time of study or data collection. Methodology: This descriptive study design will be used which is of Non-experimental research design. Sample will be staff nurses at NIMS; initially pilot study will be conducted on 10 participants, the sample size for the actual study will be 100, so that it is adequate, and avoid the sampling error. Convenient sampling technique will be used to select the sample. Data will be collected at NIMS, structured questionnaire schedule will be used to collect the information from staff nurses working at NIMS. The investigator personally collects the information from the subjects. The collected data will be analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Statistical analysis of the study: The collected data will be analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics includes frequency and percentage distribution of sample characteristics mean and standard deviation. To calculate the knowledge scores. The inferential statistics includes chi square calculation to find the association

between knowledge, practice of staff nurses regarding documentation of patient care with their demographic variables.
