McAfee applications are not able to update through Proxy servers that require au thentication Environment Affected Suites:

McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2011, 2010 McAfee Internet Security Suite 2011, 2010 McAfee Total Protection 2011, 2010 Affected Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 7 Microsoft Windows Vista Microsoft Windows XP NOTE: If you are unsure what version of the McAfee Security software you have in stalled, please see article TS101107. Summary McAfee products fail to update when a proxy server requires you to provide a use r name and password for authentication.

Problem Some Proxy servers are configured to require authentication with a user name and password before allowing any network traffic through. While this is a valid con figuration, McAfee products are unable to authenticate to the proxy server. This causes product updates to fail.

When you connect to the Internet through a proxy, McAfee Updates displays the fo llowing message: No Updates are available After eight days, you see the McAfee protection status icon in your system tray. If you double-click the icon to open McAfee SecurityCenter, you see the follow ing error: Your signature files are 8-29 days old If the updates continue to fail after 30 days, you see the following error: Your signature files are more than 30 days old Solution Option 1 - Run the MSCPRXFIX.EXE tool NOTE: You cannot use this tool cannot if a proxy server is authenticating you. I n this case, go to http://us.mcafee.com and reinstall VirusScan to get the lates t signature files. 1.Download the tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_supp ort_patches/MSCPRXFIX.exe. 2.Double-click MSCPRXFIX.exe. 3.After running the tool, restart your computer. 4.To check for updates, right-click the M icon in the system tray and select Upd ates.
