Explanation of concepts
Player Each person who plays Speed Badminton. Match Partner The player of a double in the same team. Match Party A party consists of one player in a single. A party consists of 2 player in a double in the same team. Opponent The player of the party to be confronted with. Game Competition of Speed Badminton between 2 parties, consisting of one or two players at each team. Square A square is a part of the court. It refers to one of two squares where the speeder has to be placed in. Court with security zone The courts consists of 2 opposite squares which are parallel within a distance of 12,8 m and a security zone which forms a regular frame around the square and the intermedium zone. Ball The ball is called speeder. Racket The player plays with a racket. Single In a match with 2 opposite players a square is assigned to each party. Double A match with 2 opposite players each. A square is assigned to each party. Baseline player only double: The player who has to put a part of his foot which is next to the baseline behind the partners at the moment when striking the speeder. Attacker only double: The player who has to put a part of his foot, which is next to the baseline, in front of the partners at the moment when striking the speeder. Server The party to serve. Returner The party opposite to the server/ the party to return.

Exchange of shots / rally A sequence of one or several shots counting from the serve to the moment when the speeder is out of bound. Head umpire The head umpire is the observer of the ISBTO and is also called tournament referee.

Referee The referee is responsible for one match and is also called match referee. Line- / Serve- / Position umpire The line- / serve- / position umpire has to give the faults of serve made by the server or has to announce the faults of position, too. Speederkids Speederkids are also known as ball boys.

Choice
Before starting the match there is a choice. The party which wins the choice chooses the position according to rule 1.1.1 or rule 1.1.2 ... to serve or return the first one. ... to start the match on one or the other court side. The loser of the choice has to decide on the remaining possibility.

Point system (way of counting)


It is up to the organizer including the quarter finals to play 3 or 2 winning sets. The semifinals 3 winning sets should to be played and the finals 3 winning sets have to be played. The party which reaches first 16 points wins the set with exception to rule 2.4. The party which wins a rally gets one point in addition to the points so far. A party wins a rally if the opposite party makes a fault or the speeder is outbound, because it falls into the opposite court. At a score of 15:15 the party which is in the lead of 2 points first wins the set. The party which looses a set is the first one to serve in the next set.

Change of the court sides


The parties change the court sides... ... after finishing the first set. ... at the end of the second set, if there is a third one. ... at the end of the third set, if there is a fourth one. ... at the end of the fourth set, if there is a fifth one. ... in the third set (if two winning sets are played) always after reaching 9 points. ... in the fifth set (if 3 winning sets are played) always after 9 points played. If the sides havent been changed as prescribed in rule 3.1, the change has to be done immediately after recognizing the mistake, provided that the speeder is out of bound. The points reached so far remain.

Serve (opening the match)


At a correct serve no party is allowed to delay the serve inadmissibly as soon as the server and returner are ready to serve. the server has to stand inside of the base court (serving zone) without crossing with any part of the foot the serve line or imaginary serve line respectively. one foot of the server has to be in dose touch with the court ground, from the beginning of the serve (rule 4.2) up to the end of the serve (rule 4.3). the whole speeder has to be under the shot hand of the server at the moment of touching the racket. after starting the serve (rule 4.2) the racket has to be moved forwards until finishing the serve (rule 4.3) (i.e. it is not allowed to interrupt the serve movement.). As soon as the player is ready to serve, the first movement forwards of the racket head by the server means start of the serve. Once started a serve (rule 4.2) a serve is regarded as executed when the speeder is hit by the racket of the server or when trying to do the serve, the server misses the speeder. The server is only allowed to start serving, if the returner is ready. The returner must be considered to be ready, if it is visible that he intends to return the serve. Each party executes 3 serves successively before the other party has the right to serve. At the score of 15:15 all the right to serve changes after each point.

Single
Serve and return party The serve is made by the parties within the base court (serve zone). The serve can be made within the base court/serve zone in any position. Sequence of strokes and position on the court During a rally the speeder is alternatively hit by the server and returner in any position until the speeder is out of bound (rule 9). Winning points and serve (rally point system) If the server wins a rally (rule 2.3) he gets a point. lf the returner wins the rally (rule 2.3) he gets a point.

Double

Serve and return party A player of the serve party has to serve inside of the base court/serve zone and belongs with his partner to the same party. 6.1.2 Each player of the return party is called returner. 6.2 Sequence and position on the court 6.2.1 After having served the speeder can be shot in any position by each player of the return party (see rule 6.5) until the speeder is out of bound (rule 9). 6.2.2 The winner party of the corresponding last set (or the returner party after the choice (rule 1)) has to announce who will be the attacker or the back court player respectively before starting the next (or the first) set. 6.3 Winning points and serve (rally point system) 6.3.1 lf the serve party wins a rally (rule 2.3) this party will get one point. 6.3.2 If the return party wins a rally (rule 2.3), the return party will get one point. 6.4 Sequence of servers The right to serve passes (following 6.4.1 6.4.5) 6.4.1 from the party (A) which has the right to serve 6.4.2 onto the attacker of the returner (party B) who is then the back court player 6.4.3 onto the partner of the party (A) 6.4.4 onto the partner of the party (B) 6.4.5 onto the first server, etc. 6.4.6 A player is not allowed to serve out of the sequence. 6.4.7 Both players of the party which lost the last set can serve first in the following set. 6.5 Position faults at serve and return, i.e. during the rally mean 6.5.1 if there is a fault in position at serve and return, i.e. during the rally respectively. 6.5.1.1 The back court player puts a part, of his foot which is next to the base line in front of the partner s foot at the moment of striking the speeder 6.5.1.2 The attacker puts a part of his foot which is next to the base line behind the partners foot at the moment of striking the speeder 6.5.2 ... If a fault of position at the serve or return during the rally respectively is punished by the umpire, then the point is immediately lost, although the rally has not been finished yet.

Faults

It is a fault 7.1 if a serve is not made in accordance with the rules (rule 4). 7.2 if the speeder in the match 7.2.1 touches the court outside of the border lines of the court (i.e. not inside or on the border lines). 7.2.2 ... touches the ceiling or the side walls. 7.2.3 ...touches a player or a players clothes. 7.2.4 ... touches any object or other person outside of the court. 7.2.5 is caught or stopped by the racket and is then thrown during the return. 7.2.6 ... is hit twice one after the other, by the same player. Still, it is not a fault, if the speeder hits the racket frame or strings at the same time. 7.2.7 is shot by a player and after that by his partner. 7.2.8 ...touches the racket of a player and then does not fly in direction of the opposite court side.

Repetitions
If there is a repetition the serve of the last rally is no longer valid and the player who served the last time repeats the serve. Repetition takes place, if the server serves before the returner is ready (rule 4.4). ... a fault is committed by the parties at the same time. ... the speeder shows a defect or has gone out of shape during the match. According to the umpires opinion the match is disturbed or a player is distracted by a coach of the opponent. ... the line umpire was not able to see where the speeder dropped and the umpire is not able to make a decision himself. something unforeseen happened. ... any object dropped into the court while speeder is in the match. Repetition is announced by the umpire or player (if there is no umpire).

A speeder is out of bound if


it touches the court ground. there is a fault (rule 7) or a repetition (rule 8).

Annex - players communication without umpire 1. In the index finger of the hand which does not hold the racket points downwards. 2.
