Soul Reaver

a.k.a. Soul Harvester Throughout history, there has been a fear of a vision of Death wearing a black cloak which comes to take the souls of the dead. This legend was largely started due to the demon known as the Soul Reaver. In truth, this 'cloak' is impossible to pull off and is actually part of the demon. It is the way the demon's skin appears to the normal eye. In addition, these demons also prefer weapons with a long reach such as a long handled sickle. The Soul Reaver is a demon that has the horrible ability to capture a mortal's soul. Once the soul of a victim is captured, the Soul Reaver can then control the body of the victim like a mindless slave. There is no limit to how many souls can be captured. It is perhaps their large collections of soul deprived slaves which makes a Soul Reaver so very dangerous. It is also this fact which also causes them to be referred to as a Soul Harvester. Even though the Soul Reaver can manipulate the still living body like a puppet that feels no pain and knows no fear, the body still needs proper nourishment and care. Once the body dies, whether it is from damage, starvation, or some other method, the Soul Reaver can no longer manipulate it. For this reason, it is uncommon for a Soul Reaver to keep a soul slave for too long due to the hassles of taking care of a mortal body. However, if a particular slave proves valuable enough, a Soul Reaver may go through great lengths to keep it alive. It is a common tactic for a Soul Reaver to use their servants to bring in new victims before their time passes. In this way, they can keep a fairly stable flow of constant workers without much hassle. Unfortunately, the number of people that go missing during these times can bring the attention of travelers. These travelers may be more suited to dealing with the demon threat than typical townsfolk. Alignment: 50% are miscreant, 45% are diabolic, and 5% are anarchist. Magic: Soul Capture: The Soul Reaver can capture the soul of a victim. This spell takes a full 30 seconds (2 melee rounds) to cast and the victim must be within 5 feet (1.5 m). It is usually cast on a restrained victim. After the soul is siphoned from the victim, it is contained within a small sphere 5 inches (0.1 m) in diameter. If the sphere is shattered (it has 5 S.D.C.) the soul will return to the victim and it will no longer be under the control of the Soul Reaver. Once the soul is captured, the victim will follow the commands of the Soul Reaver without question. The victim will continue to follow that order until it is finished in which case it will return to its master, it dies, or it is ordered to do something new. Also, all slaves will instinctively protect their master if they sense the Soul Reaver is in danger, even without being ordered. P.P.E. cost: 20 Psionics: None. Notes: Never wear armor. They are usually loners, except for their soul slaves. Soul Reavers are very intelligent and master manipulators. They will gladly use their slaves to help control the actions of others.
