The Jefferson and Lewis County Animal Response Teams (CART) will be holding open houses for anyone with an interest in learning more about ways to help emergency efforts for livestock and domestic pets in the event of a disaster. The CART teams provide specialized assistance and organization of contributions from agencies, farms, businesses, and individual citizens in the event of a disaster resulting in the need for large animal rescue and/or evacuation assistance. On Wed., June 19, the Jefferson County team will host an event from 5-7 pm at the Jefferson County Dog Control Offices, located at 21897 Co. Road 190 in Watertown. The Lewis County team will host their event on Fri., June 21 from 11 am-1 pm at the Lewis County Office of Emergency Management, located at the Lewis County Public Safety Building, 5252 Outer Stowe Street in Lowville. The events, which are free and open to the public, are designed to provide information and educational materials to anyone interesting in joining the volunteer CART teams. These open houses are set up that you can stop by during the designated hours for a few minutes and visit with the representatives to learn more about CART in each county. There will be representatives from both teams at each of the events to answer specific questions. Refreshments will be served. Curious about what CART is and how you could get involved? How much time will it take? Then stop by either in the evening or during the day, have a bite to eat and chat with one of our CART representatives from Jefferson and/or Lewis County.
