l The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) is a regional examining body that provides examinations for secondary and post-secondary candidates in Caribbean countries. CXC offered its first examinations for the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) in 1979. Examinations were offered in English, Geography, History, Mathematics and Integrated Science as a pilot. Headquarters in Barbados. Disaster Readiness CDERA Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency this regional inter-governmental agency established in September 1991 by an Agreement of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM to be responsible for disaster management. There are presently sixteen Participating States within CDERAs memberships. Headquarters in Barbados West Indies Cricket VISION STATEMENT: To establish and sustain West Indies cricket as the sporting symbol of the West Indies, and the West Indies team as the dominant team in international cricket. MISSION STATEMENT: To develop and promote West Indies cricket for the benefit and enjoyment of the West Indian people, its clients and other stakeholders by procuring a consistently high-quality, successful and international West Indian product. Caribbean Development Bank The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), is a regional financial institution which was established by an Agreement signed on October 18, 1969, in Kingston, Jamaica, and entered into force on January 26, 1970. The Bank came into existence for the purpose of contributing to the harmonious economic growth and development of the member countries in the Caribbean and promoting economic cooperation and integration among them. Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute In 1975 CARDIThe Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institutewas born. In the broad objectives set out in the articles of agreement establishing CARDI, the Institute was charged with providing for the research and development needs of the agriculture of the region, as well as providing an appropriate research and development service to the agricultural sector of member countries. Caribbean Media Corporation CMC was formed in August 2000 as a result of a merger between the Caribbean News Agency (CANA) and the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. CMCs mission is to work with media houses in the region to highlight the best skills in journalism, broadcasting, publishing and technical services. In addition, the organisation strives to make inroads within the media industry by forging closer links between the Caribbean and the rest of the world. Health and Environment In 1979 the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Conference of Ministers Responsible for Health formally approved a Caribbean Environmental Health Strategy. The Institute exists for the purpose of ensuring that the Caribbean citizenry, both present and future are able to experience a long and healthy life. Caribbean Court of Justice Caribbean Court of Justice The Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) is the regional judicial tribunal established on 14 February 2001. To provide for the Caribbean Community an accessible, fair, efficient, innovative and impartial justice system. It is to be the CARICOMs final court of appeal, replacing the British Privy Council.
