To be the first choice in the markets where we operate, valued by our stakeholders.

" The key elements to their strategy for future include : 1) Nurturing people 2) Enhancing quality of life of our neighboring community 3) Bettering Health , Safety & Environment Performance 4) Building trust among our stakeholders

Their sustainable strategy aligns with the overall business strategy and reflects a clear understanding of the needs and expectations of key stakeholders.

Key drivers of approach : 1) Proactive engagement with stakeholders 2) Attracting & retaining best talent 3) Provision of a safe & healthy work environment 4) Focus on environment friendly technologies 5) Drive to conserve natural resources

1) Mining and mineral processing activities have come

with high environment costs. 2) Mining is one of the most environmentally and socially disruptive activities undertaken by business 3) Use of traditional technologies and unskilled manpower 4) Consumption of more energy and generation of waste makes it one of the polluting sector

They have long term approach to water management that aims to improve performance, recognize the significance of water and contribute to sustainable water management. Initiatives : 1) Dedicated effluent treatment plant at smelters 2) Reverse osmosis plants installed at smelters 3) They follow ZERO discharge at plants 4) 5-20% water conservation targets in b -plans 5) Reviewed by COO on a monthly basis

They believe in energy efficiency and optimization, which reduces operating costs and impact on environment by reducing direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions.

Focus on 4R waste strategy : 1) Reduce 2) Recycle 3) Reuse 4) Reclaim At mines, waste rocks generated are used in the construction for strengthening of embankment of tailing dams . 100% fly ash generated from our captive power plants are also being utilized for cement manufacturing

None of their smelters and mines are situated near endangered ecosystems or wetland areas or world heritage sites. All their operating sites are surrounded with plantation and every year plantation is done to further improve its density and increase the greenbelt coverage. Some of their sites have engaged horticulture experts to restore the wastelands by plantations. The total population of their plantation is more than 900,000 plants across all their operating locations.

Their smelting and mineral processing operations are energy intensive and these energy demands are met in majority by their own captive power plants and from the State grids. The power plants are coal based and CO2 is being emitted. Towards their efforts to produce green energy, 123.2 MW of wind power plants have been installed and commissioned at Gujarat and Karnataka in India. They also have 16.7 MW of power generation capacity from r waste heat recovery plants at Chanderiya and Debari.

Mining industries are known to be affecting their

environment with their activities.

HZL has tried to meet environment standards Since their operations are in Rajasthan hence they are

bound to conserve water

Their strategies will help them maintain a competitive

edge in the long run.

There should be frequent assessment of mining reserves in

the country to minimize the damage caused to the environment. Implement regular health surveillance and risk-based monitoring of employees. Occupational health experts to be present across all mines and smelters for regular health examination of employees and contract employees. Changing to renewable sources of energy for all its operations. Find opportunities for environment-friendly recycle/reuse of wastes and to continue to ensure that the remaining wastes are managed and disposed of in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
