Electrical Engineer

Primary location: Rochester, NY


MicroGen Systems, Inc. (MicroGen; www.microgensystems.com) is seeking uniquely qualified candidates who share our vision and passion to provide best-in-class piezoelectric MicroElectroMechanical Systems (piezo-MEMS) platform-based products, including actuators, sensors and energy harvesters, as well as other non-piezoelectric MEMS devices. Integration of these aforementioned devices, as well as other microsystems components for products targeted at specific wireless sensor markets (e.g. industrial and building, commercial, transportation systems, defense and others) will be a key differentiator of MicroGens numerous inertial MEMS product-lines. The Electrical Engineer will report to the VP Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing electronics and software (experience with mechanical systems is a plus) for initial prototype and volume production testing environments, design of experiments, data collection, and operation and maintenance of test equipment, as well as analysis and documentation. Effective communication of data and other necessary information is essential. Requirements: - Engineer (minimum): B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or similar field. 5+ years combined experience in an electronics technology environment; microelectronics and MEMS experience preferred, piezoelectric based experience is a plus. - Experience with circuit design and characterization, preferably for low power / power storage applications. - Experience with population and characterization/troubleshooting of PCB boards. - Experience with mechanical design and working with machinists; Familiarity with CAD software e.g. SolidWorks is a plus. - Experienced in the use of design of experiments (DOE), and root-cause failure analysis methodologies. - Experience with technical customer support. - Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills. - Experience working in a start-up environment preferred. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Circuit design, fabrication, and characterization/analysis for low power applications. Characterization of internal and external electrical components, analysis, documentation, and communication of data. Integration of piezo-MEMS energy harvesters for powering electrical equipment. - Design of mechanical parts; CAD design and modeling (preferred, but not required) - Technical customer support. In addition, the candidate should have the following attributes: - Highly motivated to make the company successful. - The ability to listen to other contributors and the customer and participate in and implement team decisions. - An ambitious nature combined with sound technical and business perspective. - A demonstrated ability for successful project planning and execution. Personal characteristics of the candidate will include: - Strong leadership skills, self-confidence and intellectual capacity. - Excellent communication skills. - High ethics, honesty, integrity and maturity. - A strong work ethic in a start-up environment, and dedication to be personally successful. - The ability to be a team player and work within a participative management style.
