of India Fellowships (Research Fellowships Doctoral)


ICSSR invites proposals for Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowships for the year 201213. The research proposals may belong to anyone of the social science disciplines or may be interdisciplinary in nature. The recognized disciplines are: (i) Sociology and Social Anthropology; (ii) Political Science/Pub. Admn. And allied subjects; (iii) Economics and allied subjects; (iv) International Studies; (v) Social Geography and Population Studies; (vi) Commerce and Management; (vii) Social Psychology and allied subjects; (viii) Education and allied subjects; (ix) Social Linguistics/Socio-Cultural and allied subjects; (x) Law, international Law and allied subjects; (xi) National Security and Strategic Studies; (xii) Any other (specify). Within the framework of social sciences, an effort is made to promote interdisciplinary studies. In regard to other major disciplines such as natural sciences, medical science, agriculture science, etc., areas of interface between these disciplines and the social sciences are also covered under the Fellowship scheme. The applicants are requested to indicate under which clubbing of disciplines their proposals falls. Centrally Administered Doctoral Fellowships are classified into two categories: (1) Open Doctoral Fellowships; (ii) Doctoral Fellowships in North East Category. Institutional Doctoral Fellowships are advertised and awarded by the ICSSR Research Institutes on their own. ELEGIBILITY Candidates who hold a Masters degree of a recognised university in any social science subject with a minimum of second class with 55% marks. Relaxation of 5% marks/ corresponding grades will be made for SC/ST candidates. Candidates should preferably not be more than 35 years (relaxable by 5 years in case of SC/ST)as on the last date for the receipt of the completed applications in the Council. AFFILIATION The applications for Doctoral Fellowships shall be affiliated to Universities/P.G. Colleges/ Institutions recognized and funded by Central/State Governments. In case of other institutions/NGOs/Registered Societies, the applicant will have to furnish additional details in accordance with Annexure-IV. Affiliation will be grated to only such institutions/NGOs, which satisfy the conditions laid down by the ICSSR. VALUES AND DURATION

The value of the fellowship for full time regular doctoral fellowship is Rs. 16,000/p.m. (Consolidated) in case of regular PhD scholars (non-employed) In case of employed scholars, salary protection is provided for both full time regular and shortterm fellowships. The fellow will be entitled to allowances as per the rules admissible at the parent institution. The leave salary and pension contribution/employers share of CPF contribution will also be borne by the Council. For full time regular doctoral fellowship, a contingency grant of Rs. 15,000/-per annum is admissible through the entire period of the fellowship to both not employed and employed scholars. Duration for full time regular doctoral fellowship would be two years extendable up to one more year in special circumstances Fellowships with Salary Protection The applicants should apply through their institutions/colleges/universities, which should certify that it would maintain their lien on the post during the period of the fellowship and allow them to return to it after the period of fellowship is over. Only the employees of those institutions/colleges/universities, which follow UGC/Govt. norms, will be considered (Please enclosed latest pay slip). APPLICATION PROCEDURE Complete application format is given below in the Annexures. All applications for Fellowships have to be made on the prescribed Application form for Fellowships attached with these guidelines, along with all the following enclosures for all the schemes under doctoral fellowship. Annexure -I CV of applicant Annexure -II Abstract and research proposal/synopsis as approved by the University/institution Annexure -III Duly Attested .SC/ST/OBC/PH certificate, if applicable Annexure -IV Applications to be forwarded by Non-Public Institutions, as per prescribed format along with No Objection and Salary Certificate from the Employer Annexure V Salary certificate from the employer, if applying under salary protection scheme Annexure VI Progress report from the supervisor in case applying for contingency grant Applications must be duly forwarded on the prescribed format with signatures and seal of the Head of the Institution where the scholar is employed or affiliating institution in case the scholar is not employed.

Incomplete applications and those not duly forwarded will not be considered for Fellowship. Fellowships are reserved for SC/ST candidates as per Govt. of India rules. Formats for research proposals with all details/guidelines in respect of Doctoral Fellowships can be downloaded from the ICSSR website: www.icssr.org. Applications must be sent by registered mail, acknowledgement due, or through courier. ICSSR does not accept applications by FAX or E-mail. There will be no last date for applying under any fellowship scheme of ICSSR. Applications will be accepted throughout the year.
