Noah's Ark

Genesis 6:14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and
cover it inside and outside with pitch.

The story of Noah’s Ark plays a key role in history and has impacted the hearts
of millions through reading about it in the Bible. It serves as a reminder to the
world that God will never forsake those who are faithful to Him. If God makes a
covenant, He will never break His oath. After bringing a cataclysmic flood that
engulfed the earth for forty days, God made a covenant for Noah, his family, and
future generations, not to ever cover the earth with such a deluge again. A
rainbow is a sign of this eternal covenant.

Even though it is very important, put aside for a moment what I have just written.
How many of us really know the literal meaning of the word “ark”? Let us delve
deeper into the truth about the ark. The Hebrew name for ark is “Teivah,” which
means “floating box,” and also can be used for "word,” as in God’s Word-the Bible.
Whether or not Noah knew this exact meaning is not clear. What I find fascinating
is that while God was telling Noah and his family to enter into the ark, He was
actually telling them to enter into the “gate of The Torah.” The Old Testament is
His precious Word, and by entering, Noah found rest and completeness. Jesus said
in John 10:1, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold
by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”

Despite all of the problems in the world, Noah came into God’s Word and trusted in
Him to keep them all safe from harm during those turbulent forty days. You see,
this flood was a type of salvation. A salvation that was to come onto the scene
when Jesus was crucified on the Cross at Calvary. The prophet Isaiah wrote,
“Behold, the Lord God shall come with a strong hand, and His arm shall rule for
Him.” God saved Noah and his family with His strength and brought them salvation
from the flood.

Have we come into this spiritual completeness in our own lives, as Noah did?
Through coming into the Word of God, we find rest, and peace settles into our
hearts. Psalms 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted
among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

How often in our busy lives do we take the time to “be still” in order to hear Him
speak to our hearts? Without hearing God speak to us, we would be like a ship
without a rudder. We would be reckless with no point of reference. As Noah found
peace and direction within the ark, we can find them too within the Word.
