Different ways to toggle Function keys

As the name suggest function keys are designed to do specific functions or tasks in a short cut way. They are programmed in such a way to cause an operating system command interpreter to perform certain actions. They are normally lined at the top of the keyboard labeled from F1 to F12. Their operation depends on the installed operating system and the current software program in which they are used. Function keys provide us freedom to do work smartly and easily in short duration. The different function keys and tasks performed by them in Microsoft windows operating system are as follows, Function key F1: Normally used as a help key. It opens a help screen when pressed. During boot helps in entering CMOS setup. Pressing windows key + F1, opens Microsoft windows help and support center. By pressing CTRL + F1, can get to the task pane in Microsoft office. Function key F2: It renames a highlighted icon, file, or folder in all versions of windows operating system. By pressing Alt + Ctrl + F2, it open document window in Microsoft word. Opens print preview window in Microsoft word by pressing Ctrl + F2 key. To enter CMOS setup during the boot. Function key F3: Pressing F3 key open search feature for many programs in windows computer. Pressing F3 repeat the last command in MS-DOS or windows command line. Pressing shift + F3 will change the text in Microsoft Word from upper to lower case or vice versa. It also changes the case of beginning of every letter. Pressing windows key + F3, open the advanced find window in Microsoft Outlook. Function key F4: Pressing F4 open find window in Windows 95 to XP. It opens the address bar in internet explorer and windows explorer. From word 2000 onwards, it repeats the last action performed. Pressing Alt + F4, closes the program window currently active in the Microsoft windows. Pressing Ctrl + F4, closes the open window within the current active window in Microsoft windows operating system.

Function key F5: Pressing F5, refresh or reload the page or document window in all modern internet browsers. In Microsoft word, it opens the find, replace, and go to window. In PowerPoint, it starts a slide show. Function key F6: It moves the cursor to the address bar in most of the internet browsers. By pressing Ctrl + shift + F6 key, opens to another open Microsoft word document. Function key F7: Used for spelling check and grammar check of a document in MS word, outlook etc. Shift + F7, runs a Thesaurus check on the highlighted word in the MS word. In Mozilla Firefox, it turns on caret browsing. Function key F8: It is commonly used to enter windows safe mode. Function key F9: It is used to open the Measurements toolbar in Quark 5.0. Function key F10: It activates the menu bar of an open application. Shift + F10, does the same function as right clicking the mouse button of a highlighted icon, word, line, file, or internet link. Use to enter the CMOS setup. Function key F11: Used for full screen mode in all modern internet browsers. Function key F12: Used for opening the save as window in MS word. Pressing the Shift + F12 key, save the Microsoft word document. Used for printing a document in MS word, by pressing Ctrl + shift + F12.
