What is the socialization process?

Socialization is the process by which children and adults learn from others. We begin learning from others during the early days of life; and most people continue their social learning all through life (unless some mental or physical disability slows or stops the learning process). Sometimes the learning is fun, as when we learn a new sport, art or musical technique from a friend we like. At other times, social learning is painful, as when we learn not to drive too fast by receiving a large fine for speeding. Natural socialization occurs when infants and youngsters explore, play and discover the social world around them. Planned socialization occurs when other people take actions designed to teach or train others -- from infancy on. Natural socialization is easily seen when looking at the young of almost any mammalian species (and some birds). Planned socialization is mostly a human phenomenon; and all through history, people have made plans for teaching or training others. Both natural and planned socialization can have good and bad features: It is wise to learn the best features of both natural and planned socialization and weave them into our lives. Positive socialization is the type of social learning that is based on pleasurable and exciting experiences. We tend to like the people who fill our social learning processes with positive motivation, loving care, and rewarding opportunities. Negative socialization occurs when others use punishment, harsh criticisms or anger to try to "teach us a lesson;" and often we come to dislike both negative socialization and the people who impose it on us.

Family values
Under the present wave of modernism new set of family values have been developed by the society. The fabric of a family , which was once considered a basic tying force of society, has scattered now. The factors responsible for such a decay is financial problem and egoistic attitude of people. Now both husband and wife are engaged in service in order to cope with the financial constraint of their family. Their absence from their home and their lack of interest in their family is taking heavy toll on the family. Children are being ignored and get spoiled due the due to the parental negligence.

The critical attitudes of the young

The young were generally satisfied with their standard of living. Most of them considered the standard of living should be so high that the government should be able to afford to take better care of the unemployed, the sick, the disabled and other people who are badly off. Most of them also thought that to succeed in modern society people have to be bold and arrogant. Critical attitudes towards economic growth were found especially among the girls. Most of the young generation believes that economic growth is the only basis for the continuation of welfare was not enough.

Secular value
Young generation is adopting secular and more liberal attitude toward the issues related to daily life. The Young generation had developed scientific approach and explain every natural phenomenon scientific basis. They see every issue from the pragmatic perspective. They are after the solution that give them the desired result whether their means are fair or foul.

Political value
The recent election in Pakistan has testified the changing value of our young generation to the political issue. Our youngest, who are tired of corruption and instability, has voted overwhelmingly for completing a new political party that very openly stood against corruption free society. That attitude of the young has ushered in change in value in our society.

Value of Individual liberty

Now a day in our society the educated young value more an individual liberty, than anything else. Behind the new set of standards and norms is the change in values. Twenty years ago the young emphasized such collective rights as equality and democracy, but today's young people consider the right to individuality more important. This individualism can be seen as a realization of the tendency to value personal needs more than anything else.

Materialistic Values

In most of the society the humanistic value has been taken over the materialistic value. The financial crisis and unemployment has forced people to live an isolated life and pay more attention to their financial need and desire which are difficult to come by a minimum effort. At the beginning of the 1990s the young showed a tendency to regard the materialistic values as less important than before. They were generally satisfied with their material welfare, but a suspicious attitude towards the necessity of economic growth had increased, . The humanistic-collective values, such as peace and equality, are not part of many young people's set of values. Caring: Young person places high value on helping other people. Equality and Social Justice: Young person places high value on promoting equality and reducing hunger and poverty. Integrity: Young person acts on convictions and stands up for her or his beliefs. Honesty: Young person 'tells the truth even when it is not easy.' Responsibility: Young person accepts and takes personal responsibility. Restraint: Young person believes it is important not to be sexually active or to use alcohol or other dru Values are the desirable principles in someones character that society considers worthwhile. Friendliness and courage are values. Morals work with the judgment of values as they emerge in actions. Promptness is a value; therefore, it is morally wrong to be late to work. Your teen needs you to teach him/her values so they can create their own strong moral fiber. People who have good moral fiber:

are successful in their relationships with other people. They know how to treat another person with respect and know how to earn respect from other people. They are the type of people who you find you want to be friends with. contribute positively to society by reaching beyond themselves out into their community. They get involved and help where they can. take responsibility for their actions. They try to fix any mistakes they make. They are capable of feeling a sense of accomplishment when they finish a task. People who do not have base values arent even able to feel good about doing something right. are capable of learning and growing both socially and emotionally. are generally happier. They grab on to the best of what life has to offer them. They can see the light at the end of the tunnel when life gets tough.

Success in life is picked up in bits and pieces along our journey. When you give your teenager values and help him/her build a strong moral fiber, youre giving him/her the ability to pick and choose which bits and pieces are a worthy part of their journey to success.
