LUBRICATION

The engine is lubricated by oil mixed with the fuel; the manufacturer recommends the use of BOA-SKI Two Cycle oil at the ratio of 20:1. The enclosed chain case on 1969 models contains 8 ounces of lubricant

and any low temperature grease is recommended. On 1970 Models, 8 Fluid Ounces of BOA-SKI Chain Lubricant should be used. The rear axle bearings should be lubricated weekly during operation and before storage, using low temperature grease.

Torque converter driven unit shaft (countershaft) bearings require seasonal lubrication at fitting (LFig. 2). Use any good quality low tempera* ture lubricant. On 1970 models, the centrifugal weight unit of the converter drive sheave contains ^ ounce (1 Table

spoon) of Automatic Transmission Fluid, Type "A". Fluid can be added if necessary, after removing cap screw and cover assembly.
ADJUSTMENT

VEHICLES
On later machines, tension is checked with machine resting on track. Upper section of track should deflect 1-1% inches midway between sprockets when tested with fingers or a rule. On all models, tension is adjusted by loosening clamp bolts (1Fig. 4) and turning adjusting screw (2). Both sides must be adjusted alike. NOTE: When track tension has been adjusted, alignment MUST be checked as outlined in TRACK SERVICE Section of this manual. CONVERTER ADJUSTMENT. If slippage or excessive wear becomes apparent on drive belt, tighten converter spring by removing roll pin and slipping cam off shaft until it clears sliding plate. Turn sliding plate one ramp (%-turn) toward the rear to increase spring tension, then reinstall cam and roll pin.
OVERHAUL

STEERING SKIS. With handlebar in normal straight driving position, both skis should point straight ahead and center-to-center distance should be the same at front and rear of skis. Each drag link must be adjusted separately after disconnecting outer end. DRIVE CHAIN. The roller drive chain should have a free play of VAinch. To check the adjustment, tip machine to right and remove chain case cover. On 1969 machines, adjust tension by tightening or loosening the two adjustment screws (A^Fig. 2). On 1970 machines, loosen the three bearing bolt nuts (1Fig. 3) and turn adjusting screw (2). BRAKE. The shoe type brake should clear fixed face of driven sheave when brake is released, but should be fully applied before hand lever contacts handlebar grip. To adjust the brake on all models, loosen cable lock screw (BFig. 2) and reposition brake lever arm on cable. TRACK, On 1968 machines, distance (AFig. 4) from running board to lowest point of track idler bearing housing should measure 2%-3^ inches with rear of machine raised until track is clear of ground.

Flq. 4^Te edfusf treek tensien, leesea clomp screws (1) ond turn odiusTinq screw (2K On 1968 models, distonce (A) should meosure 2'/i-3V inches with reor of mochine roised. On loter models upper section off track should defflect 1-1V2 Inches with mochine resting on track.

SKIS AND STEERING. Skis, springs, steering arms and drag links are interchangeable from right to left but ski legs (spindles) are not. Skis are equipped with renewable wear bar and ski legs with renewable bushings. ENGINE AND DRIVE. Refer to the appropriate general service section elsewhere in this manual for service on engine, torpue converter, track and brake assemblies and associated parts. Drive (upper) sprockets are available with 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 teeth and driven sprockets with 20, 21 or 23 teeth. Sprockets can be changed to change drive ratio.

TORQUE CONVERTER. In 1970, drive unit is equipped with a "Safety Oiled" clutch cover which should contain Vz ounce of Automatic Transmission Fluid, Type "A" when unit is assembled. Driven unit is torque sensing and should be pre-loaded two cams (%turn) when unit is assembled. If excessive belt wear or slippage occurs, drive out the roll pin and turn outer cam an additional % turn.
