Classification of Life

taxonomy = science of classifying life Most scientists have agreed on a system consisting of 7 categories to classify all life on the planet. From general to specific, they are: Kingdom - Animalia Phylum - Chordata Class - Mammalia Order - Primates Family - Hominidae Genus - Homo (always capital) Species - sapiens (always lowercase) King Phillip Came Over For Good Stuff 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. In biology we will study all 5 kingdoms: Monera - prokaryotic cells (bacteria) Protista - unicellular eukaryotic cells Fungi - mold and mushrooms Plantae - multicellular algae and plants Animalia - multicellular organisms made of animal cells Dichotomous Key a series of step-by-step questions that lead to a species name each step will only have 2 answers number of items 1 = number of steps

eg. If you have 4 things, you can only use 3 steps.
