We have successfully celebrated Gurupurnima and Vara Lakshmi Puja with the help one and all. We cant thank you enough for your continued support. Thanks a lot to all the volunteers. HTCC is organizing a picnic on Aug 1st 2009 at Heritage park. We look forward to seeing you all there to have fun in this get-together. Its our way of saying thank you Kansas City for the support and dedication. We are having community days during August and September. We want to clean up the yards and temple premises to look beautiful and to have a healthy and Happy Living environment. Go green!!! We thank all the supporters like South Asian Times and other local organizations who are supporting us in reaching out to the devotees with our temple event updates. Special thanks to YGKC members and the young members of the community who are volunteering in setting up the library and cleaning up the lawn area. We thank Swami Narayan Temple committee for offering their premises for parking when there are big functions in the temple. We appreciate devotees checking the list of names that are displayed on the wall, website before we make the final plaque in the coming months. Devotees who are interested to donate more to come into different categories may please contact the fundraising committee. We are happy to see many volunteers signing up for Sunday lunch. Our request to the devotees is to let the Managers know at least 3 days in advance if you are unable to serve lunch on the day you have signed-up for. In the event of cancellation, temple can make alternate arrangements as we do not want to cancel the popular Sunday lunch anytime. We are seeing overwhelming response on the fundraising ticket sales. As there are early bird discounts, we encourage everyone to buy the tickets earlier and support the temple. Our committee members are working very hard to put more programs in the coming months such as Picnic, Dharma Camp, Topeka Day, Indepndence day celebrations, Gita path with the help of ISKON devotees, Ganesh Chaturdhi, Anand Mela, Diwali, Annakut, Maata ki Chowki, Fundraising dinner and many more. Please check the temple website or calendar for these events. I personally want to thank each and every committee member who is taking so many hours of personal time to conduct many such events in our temple. Want to know more about Bal Vihar? Here is your opportunity What: Balvihar Orientation When: 9:30 10:30 AM, Sunday, August 30th, 2009 Where: Hindu Temple Classroom
Balvihar is value based moral education for children, with an emphasis on Indian Culture and Spirituality. Weekly lesson plans are based on the core human values of Satya/Truth, Dharma/Right Conduct, Shanti/Peace, Prema/ Love and Ahimsa/Non Violence. These human values are imparted by means of moral stories, role plays, group discussions, games, arts and crafts. Children are also taught how to sing bhajans, recite vedas, shlokas and stothras. An orientation will be held for interested families, on Sunday August 30th, from 9:30 -10:30 AM. Syllabus and curriculum for the upcoming year will be reviewed by the instructors during the orientation. Balvihar families, old and new are encouraged to attend this session and benefit from it. Registrations will be accepted immediately following the orientation and regular classes for the school year will begin on Sunday, September 13th. Please note that children have to be at least 5 years of age to attend Balvihar. HTCC Represented at Interfaith National Convention Sri R.Krishna represents HTCC in the Interfaith community. During the July 4th weekend National Association of Intefaith Network had its National Convention here in Kansas City at the Unity Village in Lees Summit and he participated in it. He had an exhibit table on Hinduism and his wife Dr. Padma Krishna performed a Hindu worship service on one of the three days for a half hour period. She did a Ganesh Puja and Lakshmi Puja and sang the Om Jaya Jagadish Hare at the time of the Arti. Hindi Class Now enrolling for the session 2009-2010 Since last four years Hindi Class is being conducted every Sunday from 11:00 AM till noon in the temple. Hindi class has started with the intention of helping children of Indian community to preserve their Native language. Ignoring the importance of native language or neglecting their values is in a way to deprive your children of their cultural identity. In Hindi class we also try to keep them connected with our main festivals and other cultural issues. By bringing your child/children to the Hindi class you are planting cultural seed in your children. You might not realize the significance of it now, but it is benefiting your child in a long run. The enrollment for the Hindi Class (August 2009 to May 2010) is now open. We will keep the enrollment open till end of July. There is a $10.00 donation to the temple for each child each month. The magnificent and the beautiful Ratha was built by Santosh Pardy with the help of volunteers from Oriya community and from other communities. He along with Ramabholla Mohapatro volunteered to build the Rath so that the devotees could celebrate the Rath Yatra day. The Rath at HTCC depicts yellow colored Nandighosa, blue colored Taladwaja and Deviratha. As soon as the ritual of King of Puri swept the Rath with holy water and golden broom, the devotees lined up to pull the Rath to Gundicha Ghar. During the procession, the Rath was stopped at predefined spots and the devotees offered prayers and danced to beats of the dholak played by Sai Chimalakonda, President of the Hindu Temple and Hashmukh Patel, while the Priest offered aarthi WOW that was spectacular. When the rath stopped at the make shift Gundichara Mandir ( new hall of HTCC) the idols were taken in and aarthi was performed followed by sumptuous lunch prepared by more than 40 volunteers. There were more than 600 devotees and every one present enjoyed the occasion. Seeing the

response, Sri Sai Chimalakonda, President of HTCC said I am overwhelmed by the response today and the support the community has shown in conducting the First Ever Ratha Yatra in the history of HTCC . He also said this is another First in the temples history following on the heels of the 5 day Temple Anniversary held in May. He thanked every devotee and volunteer for their support, commitment and dedication in performing Gods work. All volunteers put in lot of hard work right from cordoning of the parking lot to making sure every one had food to eat. . They all gave up their time to help from literally dawn to dusk. Without them much of the event wouldnt even have been the grass and shade to relieve their bare feet from the hot ground.

GuruPurnima Celebrated at HTCC


Gurupurnima celebrations were held on Sunday July, 12th ,2009 at Hindu Temple and Cultural Center. The event started on Saturday July 11th, night after Shej aarthi to Sai Baba. After the aarthi is complete, the Non- Stop Recital of Sai Sat Charitra was started by Ravi Mehra. The recital continued through the night non-stop with various devotees taking turns to read the book. After each hour it was turn of a different devotee. The book was read in different Languages like English, Telugu, Hindi. The reading of the book was completed by 7:00 AM which was followed by , Kakad Aarthi. At 9:00 am, Priest SinivasaCharyulu started the Sai Abhishekam followed by Sai Sat Vrat Katha. The sponsors of the Vrata Katha and Abhishekam joined in the puja. For the first time at HTCC, the palki yatra of Shirdi Sai Baba was taken out. In a well decorated Palki the picture of Shirdi Sai Baba was placed and it was carried by the devotees chanting Sai Nath Maharaj Ki Jai and Sachidanand Satguru Sainath Maharaj Ki Jai. Hundred of devotees followed the procession through the parking lot of the temple in to the new hall. The palki yatra is another first at HTCC to add to the list of first time events. The Madhyan aarthi was performed in the new hall and it was followed by delicious lunch prepared by volunteers in the temples kitchen. While the devotees were having lunch, Mrs. Usha Saha, Program Chair, HTCC informed the devotees about the upcoming event conducted by HTCC. They are Varalaxmi Vratham on Friday July 31st, Picnic on Sunday, August 2nd,Dharma Camp by the Youth Group on August 5th, Janmashtami on August 14th and Ganesh Chathurthi on August 23rd. After that Sridhar Harohalli, Vice-President,HTCC informed the gathering that the Annual Anand Mela will be held on Saturday, September 12th and the fund raising dinner on Saturday, October 10th. The team was selected and positions assigned through a rigorous application and interview process. We have individuals with diverse skill set, talent and various levels of experience. It is our intent to have the senior and more experienced members of the team mentor and help develop the incoming and budding new members so as to position them for taking on leadership positions in future. Jyoti Tata has received her formal classical training in Carnatic music at very
early age by Smt.Vimala Rao (Bangalore) and later continued from Smt. Laxmi in Rourkela, India. She Participated in many school, college and other competitions and won many prizes and earned very good appreciations. Jyoti is blessed with singing Semi-Classical and Light Music in different Indian Languages. Jyoti performed in Local T.V programmes, Orchestras and other cultural activities in India. Jyoti participates every year in Kansas City Annamacharya, Thyagaraja Festivals and Jyoti is an acknowledged Carnatic music teacher in Kansas City. Shiva Narasimhamurthy will accompany Jyoti on the mrudangam by. Shiva started learning mridangam at the age of 7 from his uncle Vidwan Sri Soorly Ganesha Murthy an accomplished mrudangist in Doordarshan and All India Radio. Shiva has Attention all Fellow Members of HTCC cleared Karnataka Talavadya examination in distinction conducted by Secondary state education board. He has accompanied mridangam for several artists in India and US. Srinivas Talagadadeevi will accompany Jyoti on the Tabla. Srinivas Talagadadeevi is an amateur tabla player. He learned the basics at his young age from his uncle G.Ramakrishna, a master musician and a film artist. Srinivas has been playing tabla and a couple of other percussion instruments for the past 20 years.
