1. Lesson Stage Starter Activity


T greets SS and introduces the title of the lesson then starts a conversation with Ss related to houses in general. T asks Ss to find another saying related to houses: Home sweet home. Ss are asked to discuss upon ex.2 on page 6, describe the houses in the pictures and their own. Ss listen to the CD ex.3 and 4 and discuss them then read the dialogues in ex.5. Ss are asked to match dialogues to situations, to explain the words in bold, find synonyms for highlighted words, and read in pairs. T moderates the activities. Ss are invited to discuss ex.7 and 8 then solve ex.9. T encourages Ss to add as many words as possible. After completing these exercises, Ss are asked to write an advertisement for the house in the picture according to

Ss try to add new words to the 15-20 list in order to be able to give detailed description of a house. Ss write an ad for the house in the picture then read and discuss it in class.

Speaking and Writing

T makes connection between home -textbook appliances and daily routines. On introducing ex.13 T reminds Ss about the verbs to do and to make. If necessary, T explains the differences between the two while discussing the matter with Ss. T opens a discussion about the present tenses by asking Ss what they do every day/now/usually/always/ have just done, have been doing for some time, etc. Ss are asked to say what tenses they used in telling about their activities: ps, psc, pps, ppc (see Grammar ref.) T ask Ss to point out the adverbs specific to different present tenses: usually, always, everyday, now, at the moment, often, seldom, rarely, since, for, yet, etc, and divide them into frequency and time adverbs. T asks Ss to form sentences using some stative verbs (see Grammar ref.) then make ex.20. -textbook -notebook

Each S says a few things about 15-20 such activities then Ss say what the present tenses are, what they are used for and how. Ss solve ex.17 and 18 orally then write them on their notebooks. Ss discuss the types and the use of adverbs depending on the verbal tense employed.

Ss make distinction between different meanings of stative verbs. Solve ex.20. Ss talk in pairs or individually 10-15 and act out the dialogues in ex.22 and 25, employing the use of the pps and ppc.

T proposes Ss to go on to ex.21-25, -textbook speak and act in pairs or individually.

Follow up

In order to evaluate Ss, T proposes ex.28/12 and ex.50, 53, 54 and 55. Homework: ex.14, 15, 16 (look for the idioms and explain), 26. T and Ss share their impressions upon the lesson and their activity.
