understand the story, use echo reading and choral reading. In echo reading, the teacher or a strong student reads a sentence at a time, after which the class repeats the same sentence. In choral reading, the class reads aloud in unison with the teacher. Reading aloud helps students with fluency; research has consistently shown that repeated reading of the same text is an effective way to foster fluency development. There are several procedures teachers can use to provide these multiple opportunities for oral reading. These include one-on-one student-teacher reading, peer partner reading, echo reading, choral reading, readers theater, and recording-assisted reading.
