After completing residency training in Family Medicine (UPMC Shadyside) and fellowship in faculty development (UPMC St. Margaret) along with the masters degree in public health at Graduate School of Public Heath, University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Okada has been leading the department of family medicine in Kameda

Medical Center and in charge of providing excellent family medicine and training family physicians in Kameda Family Clinic Tateyama since 2006. He has been working hard on the development of family medicine as a solid discipline in Japan where it is still in early childhood. His achievements are in the following areas; Within the organization
Teaching: After succeeding the program in 2002, he has established and been directing and teaching at one of the few original family medicine residency in the country. The program now has graduated 20 residents over last 8 years and currently nurtures 10 residents. There are 3 full time teaching faculty with 3 part time.
Administrative leadership: He successfully launched and established a large multidisciplinary outpatient clinic in 2006 which is purely directed by family physicians. The clinic serves large populations in local Tateyama (pop. 50,000) and surrounding community as a patient centered medical home with ambulatory a family medicine clinic, home visit with palliative care, an outpatient rehabilitation center, an outpatient hemodialysis center (run by familydocs!) and dental service through over 100 employees. In fiscal year of 2008, the clinic received total of over 100,000 visits (half of which was to family physicians) and created the revenue of over 770 mil. yen (roughly 7 mil. US dollars) with the net profit of 96 mil. yen (roughly 960,000 US dollars).
Of course he continues to take care of his own panel of patients as a competent and passionate family physician with his special interest in maternity care, chronic desease (esp. diabates) and health promotion. He was chosen as one of “1435 generalists in the country” project by the Asahi newspaper. He has been featured several times in the national and local papers as family physician , educator and faculty developer. The featured TV appearances (national broadcast) include “This is the world super doctor! 14.(2011.3)” (the first family doctor featured in the series), and “Doctor. G (2012.9)” (featured teaching generalist physician conducting clinical case conference in diagnostic dilemma as the Doctor. G the 13th.)
