Uncharted Waters Revisited

Laying a New Course for a New Forest Industry
105th CIF/IFC Annual General Meeting & Conference September 14-21, 2013 | Corner Brook, NL

Youre Invited...

Early Bird Registration Deadline: August 2nd

On behalf of HAMPCO 2013, we would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to join the Newfoundland & Labrador Section of the Canadian Institute of Forestry as we host the 105th Annual General Meeting, this September. This national event will consist of two full days of technical sessions, local forestry themed conference tours, pre & post island tours and a good ole Newfie Kitchen Party. The spirit of the Canadian Institute of Forestry remains strong in Newfoundland & Labrador and we are excited to give you the opportunity to explore our forests, learn from our professionals and sample our legendary hospitality. Uncharted Waters Revisited is certainly a fitting theme, given the difficulties we have been experiencing in the forest industry, and perhaps it is time we followed in the footsteps of many great explorers and sought out new opportunities. Your journey will take you from the oldest City in North America, across the wilds of black spruce forests and into the fjords and bays of the West Coast. Here, your intellect will be tested, your spirits lifted, and your stomachs filled on local cuisine. You might even get to kiss a cod! For the more adventuresome, your journey will continue up the Northern Peninsula, across the straits of Belle Isle, into the Big Land of Labrador and along the foothills of the Mealy Mountains into Goose Bay. Like all great explorers, dont forget your all weather clothes, your bug spray, and most importantly, your camera! There will be new ideas to ponder, interesting people to meet, vistas to admire and plenty of smiles to go around. You will come as colleagues and leave as friends. See you in September! Further north and just into Gros Morne National Park, y oull observe the effect of unmanaged moose populations on balsam fir ecology, and then learn about the history of logging in NL at the abandoned town site of Lomond. As an added bonus, and to ensure you have an enjoyable experience both on land and sea, a 2 -hour boat tour of scenic Bonne Bay from Woody Point by Bonne Tours has been included. This portion of the tour highlights the surrounding featu res of Gros Morne Mountain, the geology of the Tablelands, and where seabirds abound and sightings of whales and eagles are common.
