After reading Ethical Leadership and Decision Making in Education, I found the theoretical situations that come with

the role as a Leader and figuring out the output for all stakeholders in each story during class in a cooperative learning environment both intriguing and enlightening. I believe that I have identified the key considerations that are meaningful to me from throughout the reading. These key considerations are: Justice, Accountability, Cultural Awareness, Caring and Values. The ethics of Justice is of the utmost to me. Without justice, law and order does not exist. The ethics of justice constitutes an ethical perspective in terms of which ethical decisions are made on the basis of universal principles, rules, and in an impartial and verifiable manner with a view that ensures the fair and equitable treatment of all people. Justice cares about the rights of people and righting wrongs when those rights are violated. Sometimes the boundaries of what is morally right (ethical), individually and/or socially, are controversial. The decisions you make should be made not for the product of non-emotion, but based on what is correct for that situation. The next factor that is important to me as an Educational Leader is the ethics of accountability. It is important to make decisions with stakeholders based on the highest legal and ethical standards. My principles and practices to improve both the standards of an individual and a group regarding conduct is important in the leadership role. The roll of being responsible for, and the potential impact of their ways of doing something, is linked together with accountability. Cultural Awareness and Cultural Sensitivity is a major point in making ethical decisions and is important for the community. Being able to familiarization oneself with selected cultural characteristics, history, values, belief systems, and behaviors of the members of another ethnic group, I believe is a civic responsibility. By developing sensitivity and understanding for another ethnic group helps develop understanding about the attitudes of others and the values on making decisions. Awareness and sensitivity in your decision making is crucial towards the qualities of openness and flexibility that people develop in relation to others. The ethics of Caring is a valued characteristic in leadership with your stakeholders. As a Leader the focus of the ethics of care is a moral stance of attending to and meeting the needs of the others for whom we take responsibility for in understanding a situation. As a leader, you have to have compassion and lead with integrity, values, keeping the emotions of others in mind, appreciating those emotions, and having relational capabilities that enable morally concerned persons in actual interpersonal contexts to understand what would be best. The ethics of Values is a must. As a leader, you have to be able to be transparent and flexible towards every situation. To make decisions, you have to have a belief, a mission, or a philosophy that is meaningful. Being consciously aware of them or not, every individual has a core set of personal values. Values can range from the commonplace, such as the belief in hard work and punctuality, to the more psychological, such as self-reliance, concern for others, and harmony of purpose. In making a decision, you need to be well grounded in yourself and what you believe in. These 5 ethical standards Ive expressed is simply how I see myself as a leader. This book has helped me revise and make a clear connection in my own personal belief system and improving my decision making skills as a leader.
