Question 4 Choose two examples of note management and give three advantages and three disadvantages for each

of the example choosen.

Knowledges are meant to be learnt. Human uses various ways in studying them and keeping it permanently in ones memory. One of the most practical ways is by jotting them down and then transforming it into form of colourful, attractive or even simple notes. But how do we manage all those notes? Sit back and have a cup of coffee. We are going to suggest you some beautiful ideas in order to make your notes more interesting. 1. Longhand Notes You can simply cut few colourful paper into pieces. In each pieces, decorate them according to your creativity whether by mind mapping, figurative or by using colourful pens.

Advantages i. The note is very simple yet packed with informations. Only important points will be extracted from the real books and transferred to the notes. Hence, you can save the trouble by not looking to any pile of books which is time consuming. ii. In the other hand, the note is also portable and can be carried anywhere. Even your bag is capable of keeping them instead of the heavy books. iii. Colourful notes can contribute to notes memorisation. This had proven in an experiment conducted at Missouri Western State College. In the experiment, The results of this study show that it might be better to highlight more than one word to increase memorization when using the color red. The results may have been different if another color other than red was to be used. As Denby (2002) stated, finding the color that best stimulates memorization could increase a persons study skills. A different study could be used to test the different colors to see if a specific color has the potential to increase the memorization of single words. Another study could be created to show if different colors show an increase of memorization of single words compared to phrases.

Disadvantages i. Too simple that certain information is not enough for better understanding. in this condition, one will prefer more to open back the book. ii. Since the notes is in a small pieces of paper, there is a probabilty where there is no enough space for the points to be written. Certain people might take action by using small handwritting just to fit in but this will create another trouble. Small handwriting are unattractive and makes the notes look boring. iii. The notes are easily to lost because no specific space are provided just to keep them. Certain notes might mixed up with another subjects.

2. Technology- based notes We can also use the technology to manage our notes. For example is Microsoft Powerpoint. It is used to present our point in a more interesting way. Animations and pictures are easily add up with the use of the tools provided. Various fonts are also able to represent the words and not just the standard font of Times New Roman. Certain people are also prefer to record the lectures they are attending in form of videos or sound recording

Advantages i. Taking notes with handwritting keep one busy note taking until they do not fully concentrating on the explanation of the lecturer. By using camrecorder, one can focus completely on what the lecturer are talking. ii. This type of notes are easy to manage where the files can be stored in a form of PDF, XPS Document, Web Page and Word Document. These only take up space in either computer or laptop by filling in the local disk. iii. The process of sharing is easier because it can be shared in many ways such as transferring files through thumbdrive, bluetooth, email, Facebook button share and Youtube. Certain powerpoint files are shared in a specific web which is widely known as Scribd.com.

Disadvantages i. The medium of sharing is limited because not all people have the chances to keep in track with the tecnologies whereas one might does not own an email address, a facebook account or even internet access. Devices such as laptop and computers might also be the contribution factor of the limitation. ii. There is high risk of losing the files and data due to the virus attack on the devices. iii. Man will get lazy to put on effort in taking notes because the technology is there to help them. Most people only have the notes but did not read them. They did not take things for granted.
