INTRODUCTION Energy efficiency is a central theme in the work program of the European Commission. In the draft for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on energy efficiency from June 2011 (COM (2011) 370 final), its goal, 20% of primary energy consumption by 2020-a zusparen and pave the way to greater energy efficiency in the period thereafter. The structure of ISO 50001 is based on the common elements of ISO management system standards, in particular the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
