SHIP & BOAT DESIGN CONTEST 2010

by the SOCIETY OF NAVAL ARCHITECTS & MARINE ENGINEERS,INC. Theme: BY FILIPINOS, FOR FILIPINOS CONTEST MECHANICS
Backgrounder Excellence as standard. This has been the guiding principle of SONAME since its inception in continuously advancing the professional standards of Filipino naval architects & marine engineers. Even as SONAME embarks on this path, our Philippine maritime industry particularly in domestic shipping badly needs a drastic improvement on its maritime safety performance what with the recent maritime disasters involving ferry boats and ROROs capsizing resulting in loss of many Filipino lives and property. Inspired by the passion for maritime safety of industry stalwart, Capt. Benjamin P. Mata, SONAME has launched the SHIP & BOAT DESIGN CONTEST 2010 which will encourage member Filipino naval architects & marine engineers to: 1. 2. Produce the best ship and boat designs suited for domestic shipping and contribute to nationbuilding by improving maritime safety and spur more construction of locally-built vessels based on best-in-class designs; Improve their ship design and ship construction skills by using the latest technology including computer-aided design and production and locally-sourced materials.

Theme By Filipinos, For Filipinos This theme bodes well in advancing the ship design and ship construction industry in the Philippines as contestants will be Filipino practitioners of the trade and the designs and finished vessels will be best suited for the Philippine domestic trade instead of importing second-hand vessels from overseas of which its design was not originally intended for the rigors of the domestic trade.
