CO-TEACHING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Background
Topic: To improve co-teaching at CarmanAinsworth Middle School and Rochester Adams High School The yearlong staff development program focuses on providing meaningful and successful improvements in regards to student achievement by improving co-teaching.

Goals
1. Provide data driven successful methods of co-teaching 2. Have staff ownership of co-teaching development 3. Use PLCs / Instructional Support Team (IST) to provide formative feedback and show growth

Description

Jill Osborn/Casey Wescott will facilitate all PDs. Staff will provide ownership and rely on the PLC and IST models to provide a vehicle to improve co-teaching methods. The improved co-teaching will then improve student achievement.

Before School Starts

A Co-Teaching Training will be held for two hours. This in-service included specific information on:
why the school is changing to co-teaching the five basic models of co-teaching planning tools time with their co-teacher to begin work on establishing their co-taught classroom.

First Marking Period

During first PLC in October:


Establish Instructional Support Teams (IST) Introduce Edmodo Reflection and Planning

IST Meeting November:


IST norms will be established discuss classroom visits in relation to establishing roles and responsibilities. The group will decided to continue to on same focus or change their focus.

Second Marking Period

PLC Meeting December:

Teachers will read the article 50 Ways to Keep your Co-Teacher: Strategies for Before, During and After Co-Teaching by Wendy Murawski and Lisa Dieker Then teachers will participate in a Socratic Circle discussion

IST Meetings will take place in December and January:


At each meeting review IST norms, discuss classroom visits, refocus IST topic or agree to continue with current topic. This time is set aside to connect and discuss without documentation.

Third Marking Period

PLC Meeting February:

Teachers will spend time researching co-teaching resources. Teachers should research answers to a question they have to help overcome any of the bumps they have come across. Teams will be asked to post at least one helpful resource to the Edmodo site.

IST Meetings February and March:


At each meeting review IST norms, discuss classroom visits, and teams will be asked to focus on the five models of co-teaching. This time is set aside to connect and discuss without documentation.

Data Review and Goal Setting

IST Meetings April and May:


At each meeting review IST norms, discuss classroom visits, refocus IST topic or agree to continue with current topic. This time is set aside to connect and discuss without documentation. In May the teams will celebrate their successes this school year.
