It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) that:

"When, the son of Adam recites the Ayat of Sajdah (prostration) and then falls down in
prostration, the Satan goes into seclusion and weeps and says: Alas, and in the narration of
Abu Kuraib the words are: Woe unto me, the son of Adam was commanded to prostrate, and
he prostrated and Paradise was entitled to him and I was commanded to prostrate, but I
refused and am doomed to Hell."

(Radi Allah Anhu) saying. I heard the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam)
observing this:
"Between man and polytheism and unbelief is the abandonment of salat."

[Sahih Muslim : Book 1 Kitab Al-Iman, Number 151]

It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah b. Mas'ud (Radi Allah Anhu) that he observed. I
asked the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam) which deed was the best. He (the
Holy Prophet) replied: Prayer at its appointed hour. I (again) said: Then what? He (the Holy
Prophet) replied: Kindness to the parents. I (again) said: Then what? He replied: Earnest
endeavour (Jihad) in the cause of Allah. And I would have not ceased asking more questions
but out of regard (for his feelings).

Reciting Surah Al-Ha md (Fatiha) in Prayer

[Sahih Muslim : Book 4, Book Name Kitab Al-Salat, Number 0775]

Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) reported : The Apostle of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-
wasallam) said: If anyone observes prayer in which he does not recite Umm
al-Qur'an, It is deficient [he said this three times] and not complete. It was said to
Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) : At times we are behind the Imam. He said: Recite
it inwardly, for he had heard the Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam)
declare that Allah the Exalted had said :
"I have divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant, and My
servant will receive what he asks. When the servant says: Pra ise be to Allah, the
Lord of the universe, Allah the Most High says: My servant has praised Me. And
when he (the servant) says: The Most Compassionate, the Merciful, Allah the Most
High says: My servant has lauded Me. And when he (the servant) says: Master of
the Day of judgment, He remarks: My servant has glorified Me. and sometimes He
would say: My servant entrusted (his affairs) to Me. And when he (the worshipper)
says: Thee do we worship and of Thee do we ask help, He (Allah) says: This is
between Me and My servant, and My servant will receive what he asks for. Then,
when he (the worshipper) says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those to
whom Thou hast been Gracious not of those who have incurred Thy displeasure, nor
of those who have gone astray, He (Allah) says: This is for My servant, and My
servant will receive what he asks for."

Significance of Congregational Prayer

[Sahih Al-Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 34 Sales and Trade , Number 330]

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) Allah's Apostle (sal-allahu-alleihi-wasallam)

said:
"The congregational prayer of anyone amongst you is more than twenty (five or twenty
seven) times in reward than his prayer in the market or in his hou se, for if he performs
ablution completely and then goes to the mosque with the sole intention of performing the
prayer, and nothing urges him to proceed to the mosque except the prayer, then, on every
step which he takes towards the mosque, he will be raised one degree or one of his sins will
be forgiven. The angels will keep on asking Allah's forgiveness and blessings for everyone of
you so long as he keeps sitting at his praying place. The angels will say, 'O Allah, bless him! O
Allah, be merciful to him!' as long as he does not do Hadath or a thing which gives trouble to
the other." The Prophet further said, "One is regarded in prayer so long as one is waiting for
the prayer."
