Engine 119 in model 129 Effective serialnumber: As of chassisend no. F 032599 Depending on batteryvoltage,the engineidle speedis increased by approx. 100 rpm with the transmission in gear,therebyincreasing the chargingcapacityof the alternator. The CIS-Econtrolunit receiveda new part numberto differentiate the controlunit from the prevrous version.

Operation The idle speedIncrease is activated underthe toilowing conditions: . Enginecoolanttemperature between 60 - 110 "c, . Selectorleverin gear, . Batteryvoltage< 12.5 V for at least 20 seconds, . Eng,ne speedexceeded 900 rpm once.

The idle speedincrease is switchedoff if: . Selectorleverpositions"N" or "P" are engaged, o Enginecoolanttemperature exceeds'l 10 "C, o lgnitionis switchedOFF.

Once the conditions for activation are met, they remainstoredin the CIS-Econtrolunit untilthe ignitionis switchedoff, even if the battery voltagehas since risenabove 12.5 V.

14 Emission controlsystem
replacement indicator (California O2-sensor only)
The warning lamp(A1e33) for the O2-sensor replacement indicator is installed in the Instrument cluster. Uponreachi ng 60,000 every t 250 miles(r.e. illumination l amp 60,000miles), of the warning indicates that the O2-sensor must be replaced. For instructions on how to turn off the warning lampafterO2-sensor replacement, see ''lvlaintenance note".

Electronic dieselsystem(EDS)
The EDS controlunit processes the following function s: . Electronic idlespeedcontrol(ELR), . Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), o Boostpressurecontrol(P2-control), . Systemdiagnostics. The EDS control unrtprocesses the incoming srgnals and delivers a milliamp current to the vacuumtransducer(s) and to the electromagnetic actuator on the injection pump.The entrresystemcan be testedwith an impulse counteri.e. the malfunction memorycan be read by meansof an outputsignalto the test connection {X11,4).

The self-check programintegrated into the EDS controlunit tests the electronic dieselsystem r.o.detectsand storessystemmalfunctions. Intermittent malfunctions, which occur for longer than 4 seconds,are also stored. For example,sensormalfunctions, with the exceptionof enginespeed sensor,are stored into memory,as well as short circuitsin the actuatorsand their inputwiring. Throughthe use of an impulsecounterat socket4 of test connection (X11i4), the individual malfunctions can be recalled for evaluation.The properdiagnosis can be determined according to the indicated malfunction.
