ServicesCareer Center
CENTER 50+ CAREER CENTER is designed to provide individuals 50 years and older a place where they can receive a wide array of employment services and supports designed exclusively for their specific needs.
Service Menu
JOB READINESS ASSESSMENT This service is designed to help the senior identify their current level of job readiness. The instructor will clearly define excellent job readiness and work with the senior thru a self-evaluation process that will help them identify areas that could use improvement. JOB READINESS TRAINING This service will support the senior as they learn to prepare an effective resume, cover letter, work on improving their presentation/interview skills, negative behavior modification, proper work dress/appearance, etc. JOB SEARCH SKILLS TRAINING This service will support the senior as they learn how to develop and implement a job search plan. They will be supported as they develop the basic computer knowledge to job search and complete applications on line. SPECIFIC SKILLS TRAINING (CLASSROOM) This service will support the senior that is job ready, knows how to effectively job search and just needs to improve a specific skill to a marketable level. An example of this service would be a senior that is interested in a career that requires intermediate level computer skills using word, excel, power point, outlook, etc. This service would offer the senior the needed support to accomplish that goal. Specific Skills Training (OJT) This service actually puts the client in a real world work environment to gain the necessary skills to do a particular type of work. These volunteer training placements are ideal for seniors that are interested in recareering and lack the necessary skills to do the job. This service offers the senior the opportunity to gain the skills while doing the actual work. Temporary Placements This service is a great option for seniors that are doing vocational exploration or seniors that just want to earn some extra spending money without making a long-term commitment. Temp-to-Hire Placements This service is a great option for seniors that want permanent employment but are unable to find a job through normal channels. Direct Placements This service is designed for seniors that are able to be placed through a more traditional method. They have marketable skills and experience in their field of interest and just require job leads.

The Foster Grandparent Program is grateful to the City of Salem and Center 50+ for sponsoring our 40 mentors. They serve in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties. During the past year they logged in over 32,000 hours working in schools, pre-schools and group homes. They work one on one and in small groups helping children with basic reading and math skills, as well as developing self confidence and a positive attitude. They benefit students, teachers and themselves in this worthwhile program. In many of our schools, a large percentage of entering students speak very little English. To help manage this situation, 16 Foster Grandparents took an intensive course in Survival Spanish last summer. This was done on a voluntary basis and is not a requirement of our program. This course is not for bilingual education; learning English is heavily stressed. Survival Spanish is geared to basic communication and emergency situations. I would also like to thank all our wonderful Foster Grandparents who continue to serve our area. Bob Smith, FGP Coordinator, Center 50+
