Failed Inspection Panic

In 19 9 8 while do ing so me co nsulting wo rk fo r a Water Well Drilling co mpany in Santa Maria, Califo rnia. Chuck, the o wner mentio ned that he had failed his Califo rnia Highway Patro l BIT inspectio n aka CHP Biannual Inspectio n o f Terminals. It's like a DOT Inspectio n o nly mo re scrict! Anyway, all o f his maintenance reco rds were being written do wn o n paper fo rms by his mechanics and were to o hard fo r the CHP inspecto r to read. So the CHP Inspecto r failed them and if they failed again when he came back in a few mo nths they wo uld be shut do wn! So Chuck called me in to sho w me what their reco rds lo o ked like and to see if we co uld create a pro gram to make things easier.

An Easier Way
After many hundreds o f pro gramming ho urs TATEMS was co mpleted and after Chuck tried it o ut he was amazed that he was no w able to have all o f tho se fo rms his mechanic was manually filling o ut available to him in an easy to use co mputer pro gram. He easily entered in his equipment and his previo us Inspectio ns and Lube/Services and Repairs and printed o ut the resulting repo rts and when the inspecto r came back he passed his BIT/DOT Inspectio n with flying co lo rs and the CHP inspecto r was happy to o ! Later TATEMS was turned into a co mmercially available Fleet Maintenance So ftware pro gram. We have had feedback fro m clients all o ver the U.S. , Canada and in o ther co untries saying that the go vernment inspecto rs lo ve the easy to read fo rmat o f the TATEMS Maintenance reco rds and repo rts.

When I came on as Office Manager the owner was depending on his memory and timeconsuming searches to know what units were due inspections. Also, the exact due-date of the inspections could be off unless we pulled the paper inspection from our files.
