The Jordan Valley and Dead Sea comprise 30 percent of the West Bank. It is the largest land reserve in the West Bank. Israel has seized control of 78 percent of this land in attempts to annex it de facto. Settlements, military zones, nature preserves, and land mine fields are ways Israel steals land from Palestinians. The vast majority of dates from Palestine are grown in the Jordan Valley and Dead Sea area. Hence, almost all dates from these regions are grown in illegal settlements on stolen Palestinian land. Exploiting Palestinian labor and children

Palestinian workers in settlements face discrimination, exploitation, unfair labor practices, lack of grievance redress, lower wages than Jewish counterparts. Typically, Palestinians earn $2 an hour or less and pay is often withheld for months.

Consumer Boycotts and what you can do

July 2005 More than 170 Palestinian organization joined to call for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement to pressure Israel until it complies by international law and the universal principals of human rights. BDS is strong in South Africa, the United Kingdom and in parts of the European Union. The Presbyterian Church USA, the Methodist Church, and the Quakers are church groups that support some form of BDS. It is picking up steam in the US. BDS is making a difference! It is so effective that Israel has labeled it an existential threat.
