63.

Equation 1: y=2x; 0<=x<=120

Equation 2: y=240; 120<=x<=150
Equation 3: y=-5x; 150 <=x<=198
Equation 4: y=0; 198 <=x <= 378

y = -5(x-150)+240

y = 4(x-378)
The highlighted equations you had would go through the origin ( 0 , 0 )
[5/7]
Equation 5:y=4x; 378<=x<=503

f) She hits water at h= -5t^2+10t+50
0=t^2-2t-10
t=4.1623 s
g) Velocity at 3.6623 s (0.5 s before) = -31.6228 m/s
h) Velocity is zero since the starting position is the same as the final position, so over the 2 seconds, no
distance was travelled and therefore no velocity.

[9/9] well done

69. y= 1/ (1-x)
P1 = (2,-1)
Y=1/(1-1.999999)
Y= -1.000001
P2=(1.999999, -1.000001)
M= Change in Y/ Change in x
M= 1
Therefore the tangent equation is y=x - 3

[2/2] yes

Equation
Y=4.5x -6
Y= 6x -6
Y= 7.03x -6
Y= 8.04x -6
Y=8.29x -6
Y=8.315x -6

70.
Y2= 16, x2 = 2
y y2 = m (x x2)
y-16= m (x-2)
f(A)-16 = m (A-2)
m= [f(A)-16] / (A-2)
To find f(2), we would sub into the equation above
m= [f(2)-16]/ (2-2)

this becomes 0/0 which is undefined

Once the slope is found, we can then put it in a line equation as the tangent is always a line, y=mx +b.
Find the b by the y intercept.

You should have used f(A) = 4A y = [( 4A 16)/(A-2)](x-2) + 16

Y=1/(x-1)
Y=1/(2-1)
P1= 2,1
P2=0,-1
M= -1
y y2 = m (x x2)
y-2=-1(x-1)
y=-x +3
y y2 = m (x x2)
y 0 = -1 (x+1)
y=-x-1

how you know the points of tangency were at (2,1) and (0,-1) ???
Justify these!!

Lesson 18 :

73.a)
f= front gear
r =rear gear
n =number of rotations per minute of pedal.
d = diameter of rear wheel
bike speed = *d*25.4/1000000*f/r*n
b)
bike speed = *d*25.4/1000000*f/r*n
Bike speed = 3.14*26*25.4/1000000*42/14*50*60
Bike speed = 18.67 km/h
c) A cyclist can use larger tires or jump to a higher gear.

74. a) d=30+(0.75)^(t/0.5)*(38 -30)cos((2 /0.5)t)

76.
a)2 (9^0.5) -4 = 2
b) (9^0.5)^2+9 = 18
c) (4^2+9)^0.5 = 5
d) (2(10)-4 )^0.5 = 4
e)[(2(20)-4)^0.5]^2+9= 45
f) 2[[(-4)^2+9]^0.5] -4 = 6

highlighted part is -4 whicch is imaginary so the

function is undefined at x=0
g) [[2(0)-4]^0.5]^2]+9 = 13

[6/7]

77. a) i) 4(3-2a^2)-1
=11 8a^2
ii) 3-2(4(2x)-1)^2
= 3-2(8x-1)^2
= 3 -2(64x^2-16x+1)
= -128x^2+ 16x +1

+ 16x should be +32x

iii) [3-2(2k+1)^2+5]^0.5
=[8-2(4k^2+4k+1)]^0.5
= [-8k^2-8k+6]^0.5

b) is missing h(g(x)) = (8-2x2)

[2/5]
78. a) y=2cos(3x)+1
f(x)=2x +1
g(x)=cos x

-2 x 2

h(x)=3x

[3/3] good

b)
fog=2(x^2)-1
gof = (2x-1)^2
When does fog=gof?
2x^2-1 = (2x-1)^2
2x^2-1=4x^2-4x+1
0=2x^2-4x+2
0=x2-2x+1
0=(x-1)(x-1)
Therefore x=1.
The value of 1 for x makes fog=gof

[4/4] yes
79. a) h(f(g (x)))
b) f(h(g(x)))
c) g (f(h (x)))

[3/3] good
80. a) y = |1/sinx|
b) f(x) is a normal sinx graph
when f(x) is put into g(x) it creates 1/sin(x) which flips the graph
When f(g(x) is put into h(x), it does not allow y to be a negative number and so the lowest
number it can be is 0 and moves anything that was on the bottom and flips it to the top.
c)

Where x is the rate of leakage (for this example 1cm^3/min)
b)V= dr^2
Where V is volume, d is depth, r is radius in cm
V= 0.1 r^2
r=(V/ (0.1))^0.5
c) r= (t/(0.1 ))^0.5
d) r= (40/(0.1 ))^0.5
r= 11.3 cm

d) x=10
Linear:
y = -2710x + 15390
y= -11710
Quadratic:
y = 607.14x2 - 6352.9x + 19640
y= 16825
Exponential:
y = 15574x-0.955
y=1727.43
e) The result of 1727.43 is most reasonable because using the linear model, the value is negative but a
car is always worth something in the positive, using the quadratic model, the cars value is almost the
same as the new value of the car, but we know the car depreciates significantly over the years.
f) The quadratic model does closely relate to the points but it skews away when additional years are
added. So, the best overall model would be the exponential as it gives the best result for cars with long
lives.

(7.85,0.004)
There are an infinite number because cosx is an infinite graph and the 0.5^x function gets closer and
closer to the y-value of 0 cause that line to continuously bisect the cosx function to the +infinity.
