sometimes, i crave a fuss from a restaurant. More often, though, I just want my dinner. Something delicious, a glass of wine, a pleasant place to sit, eat and chat, free of hovering and histrionics. Ars Vinorum is perfect for those times. Hidden in a tiny side street behind the Porte de Namur, this sweet, family-run Italian wine bar and restaurant is like a great big culinary hug. Plain but welcoming, its a laid-back, low-lit trattoria, with bare brick walls lined with a selection of mainly Italian wines and a marble counter topped with a selection of tempting cold aperitivi. The seasonal weekly menu is limited to a handful of starters, pastas, and a couple of meat or sh dishes. It can be very simple a long, slow-simmered lamb ragu with homemade tagliatelle, pillowy soft ravioli with sage and butter or more creative, like free-form gnocchi with the curious but winning combination of cauliower and black truffle. The consistently sublime quality of the produce means there isnt a dud on the menu: from the plump, jewel-green olives to the vast but featherlight tiramisu, this is the kind of food I daydream about on dreary Monday mornings. Ingeniously included in the price of each main course is a glass of wine, selected by someone far cleverer than me, to complement the food (Ive tried a gutsy Tuscan Fossetti Mocali and a ne, fragrant Ansonica from Elba). With sweetly attentive service too, Ars Vinorum ticks all my boxes for no-frills, no-fuss deliciousness.

parfois, jai envie que les restaurants me sortent le grand jeu. Plus souvent, je veux juste savourer un plat dlicieux. cet gard, Ars Vinorum est parfait. Cach derrire la Porte de Namur, ce restaurant italien est comme un bon gros clin culinaire. La dco est simple mais accueillante : dans cette trattoria familiale dcontracte, les murs en brique nue garnis de vins surtout italiens voisinent avec un comptoir de marbre surmont dune allchante slection daperitivi froids. La carte hebdomadaire et de saison prsente quelques entres, plats de ptes et viandes ou poissons. La cuisine peut tre trs simple, rag

dagneau mijot servi avec des tagliatelles maison, moelleux raviolis au beurre et la sauge, ou plus crative, comme ces gnocchis rinterprts dans un curieux mais dlicieux mariage de chou-eur et de truffe noire. Par la qualit des produits, la carte ne doit jamais avec ses olives vertes charnues aux belles couleurs ou son imposant mais arien tiramisu. Le prix de chaque plat principal comprend judicieusement un verre de vin choisi pour sa complmentarit. Jai ainsi got un riche Fossetti Mocali toscan et un aromatique Ansonica dellElba. Ajoutez un service attentionn et Ars Vinorum a tout bon dans la catgorie dlices sans chichis.
