Rules and Regulations for Resident Students

At the time of admission of student each resident is required to submit a duly completed personal data form at the Registrars office. A Passport size photograph is to be affixed in the personal data form and the telephone number of the parent with STD code, if available, must be provided. Local Guardian's address and phone number must be provided. E-mail of the parent (where applicable) should also be provided. Any change of address / telephone number of the parent / local guardian, at any point of time, has to be intimated to the Registrars office in writing, at once. Rooms once allotted to the students for an academic year will not be changed except on special situations. All residents are required and expected to behave courteously and fairly with every one, both inside and outside the campus. 1. All students are expected to keep their ID cards with them when they leave the campus and produce them for inspection by the college security staff on demand. 2. If the ID card is lost/misplaced students should immediately inform the Registrar. 3. Day scholars are not allowed to stay in the residential block after 8:00 pm. 4. Resident students should be back in the hostel by 10.00 p.m. Students must have prior permission of the warden in writing or gate passes issued by her latest by 8:00 pm if they will be out longer. Permission must be obtained by the student in person. 5. Students should get prior permission from the warden for being absent from the hostel overnight. 6. The warden will require direct intimation from parents/local guardians to allow students to stay away beyond the prescribed time in the evening or overnight. Parents/Guardian should send an email to the Warden at hostel.acj@gmail.com 7. SMOKING AND CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL ARE STRICTLY FORBIDDEN ANYWHERE ON THE CAMPUS AND WITHIN A HUNDRED METER RADIUS OF THE CAMPUS BOUNDARY. 8. DRUG ABUSE WILL ENTAIL INSTANT DISMISSAL FROM THE COLLEGE AND LEGAL/PENAL ACTION. 9. As Chennai faces acute Water Scarcity during most months of the year, the residents are requested to ensure that: a) Water is used as sparingly as possible. b) Showers are not prolonged and are reasonably quick. c) Unnecessary repeated flushing of toilet is avoided. d) Water taps in the bathroom are always turned off before leaving the bathroom. e) Fans and lights are switched off when leaving the hostel room. 1

10. The residents shall not paste any posters / pictures etc., on the walls, doors, windows and shelves. A fine amount proportional to the damage shall be levied by the Warden for the damage caused. 11. Occupants are advised to keep their valuables locked in the cupboards. The college will not be responsible for loss of personal items. 12. Plates and utensils provided for food in the canteen should not be taken outside the canteen. 13. No electrical appliances except those installed by the college are to be used in the rooms or common areas. 14. WIFI is available in the hostel zone but students using personal laptops must ensure that they do not download or use pirated software. ACJ will not be responsible for any legal issues related to such use on personal laptops. 15. Occupants should not deface the walls or the cupboards provided in the rooms. Damage to property, furniture, doors, walls etc will entail fines towards cost of repair/replacement. 16. Boys will not be allowed to be in girls rooms or vice versa, beyond 10 p.m. 17. Visitors will not be allowed on campus after 8 p.m. Students should not invite visitors to their rooms. You may meet them in the reception area of the hostel. 18. Washing of lingerie, underwear, handkerchiefs etc are allowed but they must be dried on the clotheslines provided for this purpose behind the residential block. Do not leave fans on in the hostel rooms to dry these clothes. 19. Residents are not allowed to wash any other clothes in the bathrooms of the residential block. Arrangements have been made for laundering clothes of residents. 20. Laundry will be picked up twice weekly on prescribed days. Each resident will be provided with a laundry bag. She/he should hand over the bag with the clothes to the launderer during his visit. The rate fixed for laundering is Rs. 20/- per piece to be washed and ironed. The laundry charges are to be paid directly to the launderer at the end of each month. The warden will facilitate the laundry arrangements. 21. Occupants can subscribe to newspapers of their choice, which will be delivered at the reception. The warden and librarian will facilitate subscription. Residents are expected to pay their subscription dues directly to the news agent in time. 24. Students are requested not to litter the residential building and environment of the campus. Please use the waste paper basket/bin provided in the rooms and the campus. 25. Please do not flush sanitary napkins and other extraneous material in the toilet. 26. Please note that on week days table tennis may be played only after class hours, i.e. after 5:00 pm. 2

Any breach of the rules specified can lead to disciplinary action including expulsion, at short notice, from the hostel. ACJ reserves its right to change these rules from time-to-time keeping the students informed through general circulars displayed on the hostel notice boards. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have read the Rules and Regulations for Hostel Residents and understood them.
