1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose
The purpose of the document is to calculate the capacity for GPRS network considering various scenarios.
2.2.1
Small transactions:
Characteristics: Asynchronous 100 Bytes upload and 100 Bytes download every 10 seconds per user Results: 60000 transactions per second per carrier per sector Calculation: Each Radio Block is of 20 ms and contains 4 frames. This can serve a user at 21.4 Kbps with CS4 max (Theoretical) and 9.6 Kbps with CS1 min (Theoretical) Per slot can be shared by 4 users i.e. 4 user at 5.35Kbps max (Theoretical) Minimum and 2.4 Kbps with CS1 min (Theoretical) Which means for every transaction it will rake 60 ms and there can be only one such simultaneous transactions i.e. 1 transaction per 60ms so we can support 60000 such transactions per hour per sector per carrier
2.2.2
HTTP-E-Mail Attachment
Characteristics: Average downloaded attachment size is assumed to be around 200KB User is considered to be accessing only one such application at any given time Calculations are based on Number of such downloads possible per hour
Result: Assuming CS4 48 such transaction is possible per sector per carrier Calculation: 200KB = 200*8 Kb=1600Kb We can achieve 21.4 Kbps with CS1 i.e. It will take 77 seconds to download one 200KB attachment per user 48 such transactions can take place per sector per carrier assuming only one user at a time.
2.2.3
Characteristics: All users are requesting data at the same time every time Result: 4 users per sector/ carrier Calculation: At a time only 4 users can share a time slot. So only 4 users can request and receive data at the same time,
