STRUCTURAL DESIGN 3 NARULA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GROUP C 10. See the solution of MODEL PAPER 1 11.

1. a) The procedure for this problem will be same as per the solution of question no. 10.b) of MODEL QUESTION PAPER b) See the solution of MODEL PAPER -1 12.

Same procedure as per Q.9 of group-C of BCET, Durgapur Here, also the total load i.e. dead load and live load is given individually at different level on the outer and inner columns. Basically, in building structures, the total dead and live load on the floor slab is transferred to the beam which in turn transferred to the columns. The imposed loads on the columns given in this question are nothing but the total lumped load on the floor which was calculated in the previous question individually for beam, slab, and column. Here, 6-6 level is the roof level. CALCULATION OF LUMPED LOAD ON FLOORS As we can see from the plan, there are 10 outer columns and 4 inner columns. Hence, W1=W2=W3=W4 = (103004) + (45004) = 20000 KN ROOF WR = (12250) + (4400) = 4600 KN Therefore, Total seismic load on the structure = (420000) + 4600 = 84600 KN Rest portion follows the same procedures as in the previous problem.

9. [for calculating wind load on individual structural elements like roofs and walls and
individual cladding units, it is essential to take account of the pressure difference between opposite faces of such elements. For clad structures, it is essential to know the internal as well as external pressures. The wind load F acting normal to the individual structure element or cladding unit is given by,

F = (Cpe Cpi) APz

Where, F = Net wind force on element

Cpe = External pressure co-efficient Cpi = Internal pressure co-efficient

A = Surface area of the structural element or cladding unit

Pz = Design wind pressure

External pressure co-efficient depends the Building Height ratio = h/W (where h = height of building and W= width of building) and roof angle. Internal pressure co-efficient depends on % of openings in walls.

All these values are given in IS:873 Part 2. Please refer to the code.] Solution: We are given, Height of the building (h) = 3.5m Width (W) = 10.m (excluding the overhang) Length (l) = 18m Roof angle () = 50 Overhang = 0.5m, hence total width = (10+0.5) = 10.5m Opening on sides = 10% of wall area

In this problem, the zone where the clad building is provided is not given. So we assume that the building is in Delhi. Basic wind speed in Delhi = 47m/s (See the code mentioned above) From code, we get k1= 1, k2 = 0.85, k3 = 1 Design wind speed (Vz) = k1k2k3VB = 10.85147 = 39.95m/s say 40m/s Design wind pressure, Pz = 0.6Vz2 = 0.6402 = 960 N/m2 CASE 1(WHEN THE WIND BLOWS NORMAL TO THE RIDGE (WIND ANGLE = O 0)

External Pressure Co-efficient (Cpe) As the roof angle is 5o , from code we get, External pressure co-efficient Cpe for windward (means in the direction of wind) slope = -0.9 and for leeward slope (means opposite to wind) = -0.4 Internal Pressure Co-efficient (Cpi) From code, for 10% openings in the wall, Cpi = 0.5 Therefore, the forces in different walls and roof in the windward slope

= (Cpe Cpi) APz = (-0.9 0.5) (183.5) 960 = -84672 N= 84.6 KN (uplift) (In this
case A = 183.5) And (-0.9 + 0.5) (183.5) 960 = 24192N = 24.2 KN The forces in different walls and roof in the leeward slope = (-0.4 0.5) (183.5) 960 = -55987 N = -55.9 KN (uplift) And (-0.4 + 0.5) (183.5) 960 = 6048 N = 6 KN CASE 2(WHEN THE WIND BLOWS PARALLEL TO THE RIDGE (WIND ANGLE = 9O0) External Pressure Co-efficient (Cpe) As the roof angle is 5o , from code we get, External pressure co-efficient Cpe for both slopes for one-fourth length of building (means in the direction of wind) slope = -0.8 and for both slopes for middle half length of building (means opposite to wind) = -0.4 Internal Pressure Co-efficient (Cpi) From code, for 10% openings in the wall, Cpi = 0.5 Therefore, the forces in different walls and roof for both slopes for one-fourth length of building

= (Cpe Cpi) APz = (-0.8 0.5) ( 3.5) 960 = -10920 N = -10.9 KN (uplift) (In this
case A = ( 3.5) since one-fourth of the length)

And (-0.8 + 0.5) ( 3.5) 960 = -2520 N = - 2.5 KN (uplift)

The forces in different walls and roof for both slopes for middle half length of building

= (-0.4 0.5) ( 3.5) 960 = -15120 N = -151.2 KN (uplift)

And (-0.4 + 0.5) ( 3.5) 960 = 1680 N = 168 KN
