This talk is about the use of Derivatives by Life Insurance Companies globally. The talk will touch upon the many reasons for which Insurance companies apply derivatives to their books and the different type of instruments they commonly use. Attention will be brought to the areas of Risk Management, Investment Diversification, access to international markets, ALM & Capital Optimization. Hedging of Variable Annuities will also be briefly discussed. Next to the above different Derivative instruments will be discussed that potentially could be of interest given the current financial landscape. The speaker for this talk is Mark Hoogendijk. Mark is a Managing Director of E8 Consulting Asia: a Derivatives Research & Consultancy firm with a core expertise in the Life Insurance Sector. Prior to founding E8 Consulting Asia, Mark worked for more than 12 year with various Investment Banks as a Derivative Specialist & Advisor for Financial Institutions. Mark has worked with many Insurance companies here locally in Hong Kong and in countries such as Taiwan, Singapore & Australia. Mark holds a Masters in Chemical Engineering from the University of Technology in the Netherlands. He is a CAIA charterholder, a CFA charterholder and a member of the Hong Kong Society of Financial Analysts. This talk may qualify for (Actuaries Institute Australia / CAS / CIA / IFoA / SOA) Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
