Subject: Re: [FirearmsPolicy.org] Contact Us - Mike Morrell From: FPC Admin <admin@firearmspolicy.org> Date: Mon, 01 Jul 2013 11:34:23 -0700 To: Assemblymember.Morrell@assembly.ca.gov Dear Assembly Member Morrell, Thank you for contacting Firearms Policy Coalition. While it's true that you are elected by eligible registered voters in California's Assembly District 40, the votes you cast (or do not, as the case might be) impact all residents of and visitors to the State of California. Hopefully, by now, you are aware that our fundamental Second Amendment civil rights extend to Californians -- and all non-prohibited people residing in the United States -- through the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution; see, McDonald v. Chicago, 130 S.Ct. 3020 (2010). Thus, the issues we and our supporters address are those without district, or even state, borders. Thus, that you've judged thousands of law-abiding people's personal messages opposing gun control and regulatory schemes that violate civil rights to be "of little assistance to our helping of District 40's constituents" is only relevant to the extent that it offers us (and the public) a cynical and dishearteninglymyopic view on these important issues by a duly elected member of the California Legislature. We're sorry that you find it offensive that thousands of concerned Americans would contact your office to express their views about issues you have and will continue to act on in your role as a member of the California Legislature. However, we respectfully decline your offer to discontinue helping Americans and Californians make their voices heard by those entrusted by them to, first and foremost, protect our Constitution and the precious individual liberties it enshrines.

BUDGET SUBCOMMITTEE #4, STATE ADMINISTRATION

Monday, July 1, 2013 Mr. Combs, I would like to apologize for the correspondence you received from my office recently, which was drafted by an intern without authorization. I appreciate hearing from people all across the state, not just those who live in my district. When it comes to our Second Amendment rights, the people of California need to speak in a clear, strong voice. I appreciate knowing there are so many Californians who are concerned about protecting their constitutional rights and I welcome their correspondence. Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to working with you and your organization in the future. Sincerely,

Mike Morrell Assemblyman, 40th District
