Spring is here and it is time to step outside
and enjoy the warmer weather! Taking chil-
dren exploring is one way to spend time
together as a family while also getting some
oxorclso ond loornlng somolhlng now.
Here are some ideas for places to go and
things to do on family outings:
Take a walk or ride bikes around the
nolghborhood. Look lor lhlngs you mlghl
nol hovo nollcod boloro - o Nowor or lroo,
an interesting house, a street with a funny
nomo.
While you are out, ask children to look
oround lor shopos. Housos, slgns, cors,
stores and murals are good places to

childs imagination by discovering shapes

dren like knowing the size of things, and

can also bring outdoor play equipment
such as a jump rope, hula-hoop, Frisbee

Explore a neighboring town, and while
you are there, look at a map and show

Wherever you go, bring paper and draw-

child can take notes about, draw and take

Bring something home from the trip, such
as a leaf, postcard, photo, drawing or
story, and put it in a scrapbook to look at

The CDA evaluation process is based
upon three components: training,
ossossmonl, ond crodonllollng.
TRAINING
The CDA applicant must:
Hovo 480 hours [oboul ono yoor lull llmo) ol oxporlonco
worklng wllh chlldron wllhln lho posl hvo yoors.
Have completed 120 clock hours of training with at least
10 hours in each of eight CDA Training areas:
Health and safety
Physical and intellectual development
Social and emotional development
Relationships with families
Program operation
Professionalism
Observing and recording childrens behavior
Child growth and development
ASSESSMENT
Assessment is conducted through a combination of observa-
tion, parent opinion questionnaires, and written and oral
ovoluollon.

includes their biography, statements of competence, and a

The applicant must be observed working as the primary

Observations must take place in a child care home that
meets minimum level of their state and local regulations
lor o lomlly chlld coro homo.

Parent Opinion Questionnaires will be completed by the
poronls,guordlons ol ooch chlld ln lho oppllconls coro.
The early childhood studies review, a written assessment of
the applicants knowledge of child development, must be
complolod by lho oppllconl.
An Oral Interview with a council representative will be
conduclod.
CREDENTIALING
Upon recommendation of the Local Assessment Team, the
CDA National Credentialing Program will either award the
crodonllol or lnvllo lho oppllconl lo roopply lor ossossmonl.
A CDA credential is valid for three years after the initial award
ond lor hvo yoors lhoroollor.

It was a nice ending to our Week of the Young
Child celebration, and the children thoroughly
