Chapter 1 Introduction
____________________________________________________________________________________ Pro Engineer Wild Fire is basically an engineering graphics CAD software. It is a 3D CAD / CAM / CAE solution. It is a tool to develop engineering parts such as screws, nuts, springs, bolts, engine parts etc. It also provides a solution for editing the parts surface. Interface of Pro E We can observe the axes defined in Pro-E Window.

Click on the File to do the required task.

This window will appear. It gives a choice to user what he wants to do whether it is about developing a part or sketching. If we will press OK. Axes will appear in Pro E window will appear. You can choose any option for development of the part. 1) Extrusion 2) Revolution 3) Boundary Blend 4) Swept Blend In Extrusion, view of part from any plane (Frontal, Horizontal, Top) is sketched. Then its 3D model is made. In Revolution, axis of revolution is defined for a sketch. Then its 3D Model is constructed In Boundary Blend, two views are sketched and are blended to get a 3D Model. For sketching any view, we have to open a window as shown above and click on SKETCH. You can sketch using the tools available in Pro E. Tools are

The 7th and 8th options are bit tricky and we will discuss them in coming chapters.

ASSEMBLY: Assembly is the combination of different parts. These are assembled to get a proper function. For example Internal Combustion Engine, nut and bolt etc. Desired action cannot be performed by a single part but by the assembled one. Different objects can be assembled using Pro E assembly Tool.

Swept Blend: It is a Pro E tool for hollow 3D surfaces. It needs two points and a basic shape to get them merged. Manufacturing: It is another tool of Pro E for the development of complex parts like gears, hexagons, spindles. Grooves can be made using manufacturing tool. Different types of tools such as cutting and drilling tools are used. Required action is performed by the application of Milling Machine, Lathe and drilling machine. Pro E Uses 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Click on the surface of the cylinder and align with surface of cube. Another Key is constructed using the extrude

command. It is opened in the assembly file.

Pin should selected in order to rotate the key.

In order to rotate the key, click MOVE, select motion type as rotate. Move the Mouse, key will rotated

Pattern Making: Often, in 3D Modelling We require several same shaped extrusions on a surface. In order to save time, patterns have been developed. Patterns are of many types such as helical patterns, circular patterns and irregular patterns. For Making a Pattern on a Rectangular block. Let us construct a disc using extrusion command.

Now make a shape on the surface of the disc to be patterned. Let us make a hole in the disc. Click on the Pattern Command Following options will appear.

Click Bar named as DIMENSION. Other Options appear such as FILL , DIRECTION and CURVE.

DIAMOND

The above patterned surface will appear as this if following options are used.

Chapter 4 Orthographic Projections and Dimensioning

Multi views are often helpful in visualizing the 3D Model. Orthographic Projections are obtained when object is viewed from front, top and left or right side. The Plane of Projection is perpendicular to the LOS (Line of Sight).

Let us consider this 3D object. We have to find its orthographic projections using Pro-E. Click on FILE > NEW

Specify the template as EMPTY and orientation as LANDSCAPE. Keep the standard size A4. Click OK. The interface for Multi- View Drawings will appear as black window.

Click on the INSERT > DRAWING VIEW > GENERAL. Then Click on the Screen. You Can see

Double Click on the 3D Model. This Dialog Box will appear showing Sections and View Display. Click on the back or front. That Particular view will appear.

Repeat the procedure for Top and Right Views.

Click the View Display and Select Hidden.

We can publish it as a PDF file. Dimensioning: Click the two points to be

dimensioned. Then press middle

Chapter 6 Boundary Blend and Swept Blend

Boundary Blend: Axes are shown in the figure. Sketch the surface on the planes. In our case, surface is to be sketched on the frontal plane. We can use also the Datum planes parallel to any one of the planes. The concept used in the boundary blend is to merge the boundaries of the sketches. Below is shown the sketch of two circles on the frontal plane. These two circles cannot be merged because they are on the same plane. Thus a third sketch is needed. Select the plane perpendicular to the Frontal Plane. Sketch Another Circle.

Now select Boundary Blend Command Following Options Will appear.

Select CURVES

Click on anyone of the circle as STARTING POINT. We selected the 2nd one. Now Click on the Details and Select ADD Keep on the adding in a sequence and then click OK.

Unusual Blended Surface will appear. We can Use the Blend Tools to construct Donut, cylinders, spheres and pipes.

Swept Blend: In this section, one basic sketch is formed and then the end sketches are formed.

Basic Sketch: This is the sketch on which 3D object is to be modelled.

Click on it. Then click on the SWEPT BLEND.

Click on it.

Click on the end point. Then SKETCH option will appear. Click on it. Sketch the required shape ( Cross- Section)

Circle is sketched at one end point. It will produce a pipe-like shape. Now Click on INSERT > SKETCH. Then sketch the second End sketch to complete the blend.

Pipe of Variable Diameter has been produced.

Chapter 6 Sweep and Helical Sweep

In Mechanical Industries, springs, nuts, bolts, screws and pipes play an important role in assembly management. They are also called fasteners. In Pro- E, they are designed with an ease Development of a spring:

Click on Insert > Helical Sweep > Protrusion You have to define the attributes of the Spring you are going to develop. Click Done. Select the plane i.e. Front plane Then Click okay. After selecting the plane, select orientation by clicking on Default. its

Now Define the Sweep Profile by sketching a line and its centerline. Here 101.94 shows the radius of the spring and 253.41 length of the spring. After Clicking Done , you will have to select the pitch value. In our case , it is 25. You have to define the section, In this case, it is circular. It can be triangular and rectangular as well. Click PREVIEW in the dialog box. Spring of the required parameters will appear

Spring has been developed. Spring of variable diameter can also be made by making changes in Sweep Profile. Either Centre Line is tilted or the 2D line.

The spring shown in the figure has hollow cross-section. It is obtained by selecting THIN PROTRUSION instead of PROTRUSION and repeating the same process. Development of Nut and Bolt:

This is known as Palette Command. This is used to insert foreign shapes in active object. Hexagon has been developed using Palette Command. Construct Cylinder on the surface of Hexagon to develop a bolt. Now we have to develop threads on the surface of the cylinder.

Click on INSERT > HELICAL SWEEP > THIN CUT

Front Plane has been selected in defining the attributes. In Sweep Profile , center line is sketched as shown in the figure. Define the pitch and section in the dialog box.

Reference the Active Object before sketching anything.

Define pitch and thickness. Material Side should be outside in bolt. For making nut, threads should developed inside by selecting Material Side Inside.

Chapter 7 Basic Manufacturing

Manufacturing process is divided into 4 stages The preparation of manufacturing model involves a combination of design and workpiece model. Design can be done in .prt format in solid modeling application and bring into the manufacturing environment through 3 options. While a workpiece material can be created by using 4 options that provided in feature toolbar.

Manufacturing Options (Assemble, Inherit and Merge) Workpiece Options (Automatic, Assemble, Inherit, Merge and New)

Manufacturing File can be created using Pro E. Its extension will be .mfg. Select manufacturing Setup from the menu manager to set up the manufacturing environment required for this manufacturing model.

An Operation Setup Dialog box will appear indicating that the NC Machine, Machine Zero Coordinate System will be required to be identified. Select the machine tool setup icon. A machine tool setup dialog box will appear. In this dialog box, user will be required to specify the machine configuration such as number of axis and machine type.

User will create the NC sequences. This section is only possible if the manufacturing model & setup are completed.
