Proposed Networking Track: GLOBAL: Being There

Global is becoming, but there IS being in Baudville , the Global Electronic Village. The center is anywhere, everywhere and nowhere in Baudville . Baudville IS the surface of a sphere. Teleconference is really Telepresence. Making one's presence felt rather than just an image and a sound. The RESULT IS the achieved EFFECT PLUS the AFFECT of delivery.

In Baudville , there IS a person behind the curtain: theRealIntelligence which supplies the sense, courage and heart. Remember, no amount of artificial intelligence can overcome real stupidity. Alternatively, artificial intelligence is better than none. In the trans holistic environment of Baudville , there IS the En terprise of the Global I nformation Network, theEnGINe, distributed dynamically throughout Baudville. There is no long term advantage to theEnGINe because information is universally available. Sustainable advantage to theEnGINe requires (1) high boundary flexibility, (2) easy accessibility, both to and from, and (3) increasing capacity and speed of information consumption and production. The news of Baudville is delivered through theCyberTimes where "We're unaware that we're aware." VR View Section Headline-Wild Palmtops: Baudville Cloaking Device

The mantra in Baudville :

There is no network, only distribution services. There is no database, only information services. There is no processor, only application services.

Be green in Baudville, where the plug meets the outlet, NOW! Being There-- Act Local, Be Global.

Topics are rendered through what-works/how-to-do-it oculars: 1. The Interconnection Mesh It's a gift to be simple; it's a gift to be free. It's a gift to come down where you want to be. How do networks connect and route messages? What are the "standard" network architectures? What are the ways to make LAN, WAN connections both within and among enterprises. How are the nodes managed? 2. Terrestrial and Extra-Terrestrial Physical Transport Believe it or not, I'm walkin' on air. Copper, Fiber, Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, UTP, 10BaseT, 10Base2, T1, T3, EMF, Satellite: what are the speeds, performance and costs? 3. Digital Telecom Ricky, don't lose that number. What are the digital transmission methods for data, voice and image and how are they connected through and to the popular network architectures? How does ATM work? What is the performance of working methods of digital transmission? 4. Protocols Everybody's talking. How do TCP, IPX, X.25, X.400, EDI work? Interconnect? 5. Nodes of the Internet I'd like to build the world a home, And furnish it with love. How does the Internet work? What services are available? What the ways to connect? Who is on the Internet? What can you not do? 6. Mail Servers Please, Mr. Postman, Deliver de letter, De sooner, de better. How do the e-mail systems connect? UNIX mail? Internet mail? SMTP? cc:Mail? X.400 (and X.500)? Utilities from third-party vendors?

7. Name Services What's your name? Is it Mary or Sue? What's your name? I would like to meet you. How does global domain naming work? How do IP, ONC, X.500, DCE, NetWare 4.0 solve the problem of translating a name to a unique location? 8. Time Services Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anyone really care? What are the choices for a global clock? How is time distributed on the popular networks? How does the global, 7x24 organization operate with a global clock? 9. Security Services Just knock three times and whisper low, And say that you were sent by Joe. You strike a match and then you know You're in Hernando's Hide-Away. Ole. How is security implemented on the popular networks? DOD B and C levels? How are the encryption methods used? Public Key? Private Key? DES? RSA? How do ONC, DCE, NetWare provide security? 10. Failover Services Everybody, needs a body, to lean on. Put your body on my body, and dream on. How are reliable services provided on the popular networks? NFS? AFS? NetWare? What technologies are available to provide architectural solutions? What toolkits exist? 11. NetWare vs. TCP vs. Other vs. NT Rising When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way From your first cigarette to your last dying day. What is the share of network nodes across popular protocols? Users? How do they interoperate as Client? As Server? As Peer-Peer?
