What conditions are needed for a seed to germinate? Hypothesis: A seed will germinate only if there is water, air and suitable temperature. Variables: a) Controlled/ constant b) Manipulated c) Responding
Observation: Test Tube A B C D Water X Presence of Air Warmth X X Germination of seed germinates No germination No germination No germination
Stages of germination:
Materials : Green beans, Oil, cotton, boiled water, labeling paper Apparatus : test tubes, refrigerator, test tube rack, thread, ruler Procedure: Diagram: Analysis : 1. State relationship between manipulate variable and variable measured: Seed will germinate when there are water, air and suitable temperature. 2. Explain consequence if one of the variable is absent. If water is absent, the seed will not germinate because all three conditions are required for seed to germinate. Conclusion: 1. How well do my results support my original hypothesis? Hypothesis is accepted. 2. A seed will germinate only if water, air and suitable temperature are present.
Method: 1. Four test tubes labeled A, B, C and D were prepared with their contents as shown in the diagram, 2. Test tubes A, B, C and d were placed in the laboratory, and the test tube D was placed in the refrigerator. 3. The seeds were observed after two days.
